So to make a long story short, I'm in the midst of installing KYB gas-a-justs and 1.5" Eaton lowering springs since they're about a 30 minute drive from me. After finally getting them out I compared the Eaton spring next to the factory(I'm guessing) spring the Eaton spring had one more coil and is taller as well. I'm assuming that is not normal for a lowering spring and was wondering if anyone could help at all.

The part number on the box is MC5318-112. I understand that the old spring is "tired" and the new one will need to settle but I'm still cautious. This is my first time doing some more in depth suspension work as well.

edit: Unrelated but when the time comes to reassemble and put the bolt through the bottom of the shock is their any tricks or tips on getting them to align? I was trying to earlier before I got the shock out and it would just move forward of the hole.

These are a lower spring rate that the factory marauder springs. You are at risk of bottoming out. Typically when you lower a car you have to increase the spring rate in order to prevent bottoming.

The eaton site says that it is a 1.5" drop but that is for a crown victoria. I think that the marauder ride height is already lower than the crown victoria so you may not be any lower than the factory Marauder. I know that the Marauder is lower than the police version.

To answer your original question, a spring with a lower spring rate will be longer for the same ride height. A 400 lb/in spring will be shorter that a 200 lb/in spring with equal ride heights.
