Tire Pressure ?

I was doing something with the door stickers and noticed that the 2003 calls for 32 psi cold, but the 2004 calls for 35 psi cold ?

I remember some old threads where people were raising their air pressure because the tires were weren't wearing well, but I didn't know Mercury actually raised the factory spec.

(I also never noticed because I never checked - I've always used 38 psi cold that I carried over from the Crown Vics, and it's worked fine :o . . . . )

Was there ever a consensus on this ?

Yes, the 2003 MM shows 32 psi and the 2004 MM sticker says 35 psi.

Recommended tire pressure is always a trade-off of ride, handling, tire wear and fuel mileage. FORD raised the air pressures all around on the 2004 MM after lots of early buyers started to experience premature tread wear. Probably feedback through the dealers and other channels. Lots of discussion here in the early years of MM.Net on tires and air pressures. I seem to recall Steve Babcock discussing this at the MV III / Woodward Dream Cruise Farewell Banquet in August 2005.

I bumped my fronts to 35 psi and rears to 38 psi within the first year and haven't changed in the past 12 years. Some have bumped the rears up near 40 psi.

36 psi cold all the way around for me. I have always run an extra 3 to 5 psi on most of my vehicles. The tires seem to wear better with just a little more air in them.

When I have the original tires on mine I run 40 psi in the rear and have gotten even tire wear. My Nittos I have been running 38psi.

Ty all. From the responses, I might leave the rear at 38 psi and drop the front to 36.
I'll have to list my "staggered air fitment" as a mod ;)
