View Full Version : Getting Tuned, finally!

I am finally heading towards Mo's on Monday. The tuning will start at 7AM on Tuesday. I going to find out what the Trilogy Twin Screw is capable of.

My Marauder has been down since October 2013, with a rod knocking. I collected parts for over a year. I yanked the motor in early April and started the rebuild.

Shortblock is now forged. Heads are new, ported '05 castings, with custom cams (degreeing 4V cams sucks!). Built transmission with a Cirle D converter and a return fuel system (thanks to the members that contributed to my previous thread on building a 600 rwhp fuel system).

My plan is for 3 tunes. Stock boost on 91 octane ( the best I can get in Oklahoma), then 2 more on E85. I have a 4lb crank pulley and a 2.7 upper ready to go for the E 85. The 2.7 will go on with the stock lower. That should be around 21 lbs of boost. I'm not sure if the the Trilogy throttle body spacer and inlet will flow that amount of air. I have a Dragon throttle body and everything was ported, so I guess I will find out what it's capable of supporting.

Numbers will come on Tuesday evening or Wednesday afternoon. Tuning might have to be continued on Wenesday morning, due to heat.

I'm looking forward to finally driving the Marauder again!

Oh, yeah. And trans shifting specialty ;)
a killer chiller would open up some power and safety margins - but Jeff will keep it safe.

Today was a great day at Mo's. The car made great numbers. I got 3 tunes from Jeff.

1) 91 octane and what turned out to be 16 lbs of boost
2) E85 on 16 lbs of boost
3) E85 with a 4lb crank pulley.

The numbers were:

1) 506 HP, 451 TQ
2) 559 HP, 486 TQ
3) 600.10 HP, 552 TQ with the belt slipping on the top end! Jeff said he thought it would have made close to 620 HP if the belt was not slipping.

I'm extremely pleased with the outcome from the 2.3 Trilogy blower!

Here is the dyno sheet with all 3 runs.

This was the the big one, producing 600 HP!

The blower was screaming!

looks just like the 2.3 Whipple I just sold, and was thinking would make ~500rwhp....is it a Whipple, or same thing = different name?

L&M Engines custom cams.

IAT's are high with the cams. On 91 they reached 178. Switching to E85, they dropped to 126! I will be getting a bigger heat exchanger, with a bigger reservoir, and Killer Chiller.

oohh...I've got baby Bullet cams in my next motor, never thought of them impcting IAT..I'd be sick with 150+, killer chiller and big reservoir will get you in the cool zone.
how much boost did you reach those temps at?
again, sounds and looks super nice.

That's one of the few Trilogy Twin Screw kits in his car. I've heard 2 numbers as far as the number of kits made, 18 and 28.

Please tell the crowd how E85 injected after the IAT sensor lowers IAT's

Overlap in cams causes high IAT's. With the amount of E85 used, EGT is cooler, so not as much heat goes into the intake. That's my understanding. The temperature numbers came from Jeff.

A quick search and I came up with this link. There is more if you search "E85 and charge air temperature"

http://www.modularfords.com/threads/194918-What-Is-The-In-Cylinder-IAT-Drop-With-e85

It says E85 drops cylinder temps and it's partially due the close proximity of the sensor to the intake port. Again cams with overlap and exhaust reversion.

Sounds fantastic, good job with the cams. Love the throttle blip at the end!
