Hey guys, Bought a 03 Marauder, Has no fender vins, no windshield vins, door vins ect. The state of michigan re-vin'd it with the original vin but its a sticker with a metalic etch of the vin inside of it. Secretary of state police looked at it and it is indeed the same car, vin ect someone just tried hiding it

The state police called me and said they could make and install a windshield vin for me for free.

The car is ultimately clean clean, Just someone tried hiding it at one point.

Hi, Im Tevon.

I had put a new dash in a foxbody mustang years ago, and in the process the window VIN fell off and I didn't notice it until it was lost. I went through a state police inspections, and they gave me a VIN plate I placed on the door C-pillar similar to yours. Perhaps something similar.. Not necessarily fishy IMHO.

Yea, I purchased it from a small dealer, Who bought it from auction, Clean title. Secretary of state looked at it and said it is indeed the same car otherwise it wouldve been towed that minute.

State police are a little slow on getting me a plate though. :mad2:

I guess if the police, dealership say its mine and it just needs a new plate that the police will put on it for free.

Repo, Gone bad. State police can either replate the windshield, which im going to do or the jam. They are just slow. Secretary of state police said it is indeed mine. :)

the story is weird.

I bought an old 67 I think mustang that had a state VIN sticker on the door, but because some backyard restorer took the original tag off.

Im telling you what i was told, State vin sticker on the door jamb, Vin on the engine, tranny and frame, none on the dash under window, thats going to be replaced by the ISP.

If the PO was trying to disguise the car so it wouldn't be repo'd, it sounds like you saved it from a possibly worse fate. Good on ya...

Seen this before in my years in a body shop, ran into it again while in the LE field a few times. Usually a recovered stolen, or work done to the car that required removal of the vin plate.

Easy enough to verify with multiple vin's on all the parts and the ones hidden on the frame.

Most have been hidden, The car has a case number, State police just need to see it, then make a new windshield plate, and a temp sticker. If i would like it meannwhile waiting.

The VIN plate will not be a Ford VIN plate, it is one issued by the state DMV. Each state can do that. Most times they put it on the door jamb becuase no one wants to remove the windshield to get it installed there. They'll verify its the correct VIN or they keep the car until they do. Since they already verified the VIN you get the original VIN number back.

There are a lot of cars running around with state issued VIN tags. Its when the state issues it's own new VIN number it get really confusing.

Its not a new "vin number" same number just a new plate.

There is no VIN attached to the frame fyi. Unless you are talking about the crappy paper stickers that wash out with time.
