View Full Version : Squeaky Wheel Gets The Grease?

I noticed a disgusting squealing moving my MM around the last couple months, and after getting the trans finally swapped out (which has been wonderful), I found the squeal was coming from the right front wheel. So I got it up on jacks, took the wheel off, and took a look around, thinking something came loose or got caught up in the wheel. Was quite surprised with what I found. Could be the cause of the squeak I've had for quite the long time, thinking it was the brakes (which didn't go away with new calipers, pads, and rotors).

Your ABS light didn't point you right to it? LOL

Hehe

No ABS light, sir. Although I suppose when I reconnect the battery I might want to see if the light still works...

Well, it would appear that this hub was a problem long enough to overheat and weld itself to the knuckle. I couldn't beat it out with a 3lb sledge, and a 5lb slide hammer couldn't get it to budge, either. Looks like I have more work ahead of me to get my Marauder back on the road.

Even with all my tools I had two hours wrapped up in my brother in laws 03 Vic. Just one side.. BAD corrosion.

My brother-in-law thinks we can get it out with a torch and a 1-ton duckbill.

I'm thinking I should get another hub and get the other side done while we're at it, too. Since he'll be there, just in case the driver's side is just as bad.

Good decision. They both have same miles & wear, if 1 went the other will follow soon. Do while you control the circumstances vs. a panic at a more inconvenient time.

True. But one turned left, the other turned the RIGHT way. :dunno:

Ha!

I ordered an extra hub earlier today. With any luck the driver side will swap out without any real trouble. SO, in the meantime while I await it's arrival... :beatnik:
