View Full Version : Passenger window won't go down.

My passenger window won't go down. If you push the button on the driver side door, you can see the lights on the passenger door switch dim slightly. Pushing on the passenger door window switch, I noticed the interior lights dim slightly (had the passenger door open at the time.)
I didn't notice this until today, but then this is the first instance where I wanted to roll down the passenger window.
I had the speaker replaced in that door by an autosound dealer, so it's possible that they unplugged the cable leading to the motor by accident, or maybe somehow cut the cable? Otherwise, it may be I need to take it in for a warrantee claim.
Any advice will be appreciated. I hate to blame the stereo guys for a bad motor, but then again, the dealer's gonna see that somebody changed out the OEM speakers, so somebody other than a LM tech had their mitts in there.

Donny:
It's not that hard to pull the door panel and check. I think there's only about 4-6 screws that hold it in place. But, if you see the lights dim, I would think that the power is connected and the motor is bad causing the load in the system.

My wife's Taurus passenger window sticks when it is in the sun. The window must expand causing it to stick; then the power window won't work. But, try it later and it works fine. I decided that one day I'll pull the panel and adjust the track. One day.

Does your voltmeter do anything when try to lower the window? There is a speaker clearance issue with the doors, I wonder if track is jammed against the speaker magnet.
The other post about pulling the door panels is dead on, it's not hard and the sticky installation thread is excellent.

So, I get up to got to work. It's a cool morning, not hot like the day before. The window still won't go down, and, yes, the voltmeter dips sharply with I push the switch. Then, this "seal breaking" sound happens, and the window goes down!
My theory: New tint installed 3 weeks ago, and I didn't roll this window down once since. Adhesive from the film sticks to the weatherstripping, cementing the window to the rubber. Cold morning, things contract, cycling the window control, the rubber unseals from the glass and the window goes down.
I put some talc on my fingertips and ran it over the weatherstripping. Works fine, now.

Had the same problem with my last Durango. Saved the talc for other more precious things though....

There are 1 or 2 other threads that address this passenger window problem. Mine has been sluggish going up-and-down since the day it came home. One day about 4 weeks ago, it stopped part way down and refused to go down or back up. I had to give it a manual assist. The dealer lubed the window track but it is not much better. Some here have suggested misalignment of the window guides and possible window motor problems.

Ok, here's some stuff from Ford for fixing the sluggish window concern.
17502 2002-2004 CROWN VICTORIA/GRAND MARQUIS - SLOW OR BINDING SIDE GLASS
SOME 2002-2004 CROWN VICTORIA/GRAND MARQUIS VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT SLOW OR BINDING SIDE DOOR GLASS OPERATION. TO SERVICE, VERIFY THE CONDITION AND CHECK FOR LOOSE OR MISSING FASTENERS. INSPECT GLASS RUN CHANNELS FOR DAMAGE OR WEAR, ESPECIALLY IN THE DIRECTION OF GLASS TIP. IF FLOCK MATERIAL IS WORN AWAY OR MISSING FROM THE BASE OF THE RUN (WHERE THE GLASS EDGE WOULD CONTACT) REPLACE THE GLASS RUN. WITH THE GLASS IN MID-POSITION, ADJUST GLASS REFERRING TO UPDATED 'DOOR WINDOW GLASS ADJUSTMENT' PROCEDURE IN SECTION 501-11 OF THE ON-LINE WORKSHOP MANUAL. AFTER GLASS ADJUSTMENT HAS BEEN PERFORMED, LUBRICATE THE BASE OF THE GLASS RUN (BOTH PILLARS) WITH KRYTOX GREASE FROM ROTUNDA SQUEAK AND RATTLE KIT (164-R4900). ONCE WINDOWS HAVE BEEN LUBRICATED, VERIFY THAT THEY OPERATE NORMALLY.
EFFECTIVE DATE: 01/20/2004
I have section 501-11 that is referred to above in Adobe format. I don't know how to convert it to a format that can be posted. If someone does and wants to post it, PM me your e-mail address and I will send it off to you. Otherwise, just PM me and I will e-mail it to you anyway.
