Heard a little noise yesterday on the drive home from work. Went inside for a while came back out to try and diagnose the noise restarted the engine couldnt hear a thing. So today i thought id grab a little mystery oil put a little in the tank a little in the oil. Drive around for another 30 minutes and I start to get this noise. Any guesses on what it could be?

I did change the oil a couple days ago to 10w-30 full synthetic but i don't feel like that is the problem.

hopefully others chime in, but my guess is: loose spark plugs, timing chains are starting to go, or exhaust leak (not likely)

I'd check the plugs. Hopefully its just loose.

Update went out to start again sounded like it barely wanted to start before it finally did. Ill check the plugs now

Had a click and slight vibration. Changed belt tensioner assembly and belt. Problem solved. Can't explain the slow start. Checked your water level in your battery ? Good luck. Maury

after another inspection i felt vibrations/knock on the driver side vallve cover gonna open her up this weekend, now I'm starting to think maybe a lifter.

i would get a mirror on a stick and look at the bolts on the manifolds. That is where i would start.

A Ford dyno engineer once told me "don't worry about the tick" I say, just drive it till she blows

This would be a place I would look too.

Does the car have headers?

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds a whole lot like the infamous head tick. My drivers side head became overheated due to a broken lower coolant hose while out in the swamps of Atchafalaya. It was hours before we could get to a service station and obtain repair kit. The tick manifested itself months later. Had to have two exhaust seats replaced. Zack was a huge help in getting my M M running again. Shoot him a PM, he can help I'm sure.
I did have a noticeable compression loss on those cylinders. IIRC.

Check compression and leak down would be my suggestion.

I'll guess blew a spark plug out

if that's a head tick it's the loudest I have ever heard one. My guess is plug too.

I don't remember my head tick being that loud but I guess it could have been and would probably be where I started...

if you guessed blown spark plug you were right. I appreciate all the help took off the driver side valve cover to see a busted ignition coil and a destroyed spark plug. First i have to fix the threads on the head. Then Gonna take time to change all the plugs, since I feel as if the previous owner never had the plug seated in the head properly.:beer:

Side note : I love how helpful the forum is gonna start becoming more active here as I finally have my marauder. Been saving and searching for 2+ years

If you have an 03 they have 4 thread heads and were probably over torqued hopefully thats the only one..

had to rethread it with a kit. Also, none of the other plugs were tight i screwed them out by hand. I toruqued the new ones to 11 ft lbs

Also got a question when I fixed the head. I measured the distance from the top of the plug to out the head. And it's about a quarter inch difference from the the thread I fixed to the originals. Does anyone think this would be a problem?

nevermind gonna just take it to a machine shop and get the treads rebuilt anyone know of a good one in the chicagoland area?
