I went by the local body shop, rural area and in business for 30+ years, for a guesstimate on painting the Marauder.

He said - $2,000! I said how for such a low price? He said it does not need much prep and black paint is cheap.

He races a black rail. He has done some minor work on various cars for me in the past and the work quality was always good.

There's always about 12 cars in his shop and he usually has a 2 week back order. Today it was 3 weeks.

I asked around and was told by several people so long as he is the one doing the work you will be happy with it.

Other than looking at some cars he has repainted any tips?

2k for a nice black paint job? I don't think so. Maybe twice that

Well I would venture to say that's cheap. Macco is 2500 for a good base clear paint job in black... But their clear over black is cloudy.

Tell you what, schedule to have him start on it in a few weeks... Tell him you want to see a black car that he does before yours gets started

If you don't like it, cancel your appt

Macco did my mothers 92 bonneville ssei entire front clip for 475.00

It looks great for a non show car

Just get some references and go see the work he's done.

Must not be including the door jambs, heard that can escalate the price.

No door jambs.

Overhead and labor is half what it is in many urban areas. But I was thinking $4K-$5K.

I will ask around the car clubs.

How bad is the paint on the car now? What are the issues with it? If you paint over crap it will eventually look like crap again. And overspray would be a concern not doing jambs. I hope the body shop your looking at using does a good job masking.

At that price, he's not making any money, ask how much tear down for that price. If the car is buzzed down quickly with a D.A. sander, then masked up without taking anything off, then rolled into the booth, that would be about right. However that's not the right way to paint a car these days.
