Hi Bill here, I am new to the forum and just thought I would try to contribute with my repairs.. I have an 03 mm with 84,000 miles I have only owned it a few months but really enjoy the car.. I have been repairing all the quirks that came with my mm., and so far with help from other members and the forum I have been making the repairs, so far the upgraded bcm worked perfect (great job by fastblackmerc) currently working on radio, waiting for antenna isolator, will update when new part is installed. The most annoying was the start up rattle when cold .. I read a lot on it and decided to change the starter, thankfully that has made noise disappear!! I saw the same problem on you tube and it seem`s as if it is common with the mm.. The old starter removed if you shake it you can hear the rattle.. I know you guy`s probably will not like my replacement starter but I used a bosch.. I did this because I have a ford Quigley van that would eat starters every 6-8 months, I switched to a new bosch (on the advise from a Ford mechanic) and have had it in and working for three years so far and cranks as good as the day it was installed. I just wanted to say thanks to all who have helped and hopefully somebody will be able to use my tips with the starter.. Bill

If your radio is losing fm reception, it is an internal soldering issue with no real fix worth investing in, Better off replacing unit with a Ford escape/mariner audiophile unit. Plug and play.

That's not the problem he's experiencing .... yet.

His FM works fine until he turns on the rear defroster.
