Hi guys. Have been lurking for a few days. Just found you. This is a great site !! I am picking up my 03 MM this afternoon at 3:00 !!
Windows are getting tinted as I type. Dealer had 5 in stock. Only one had the Traction control on it and that car had been a show car at the state fair and was missing a radio knob. I passed on it and will get one of the earlier builds. Been looking and thinking about a MM since July.
Got this one for a pretty decent price. 28K and change. Looking forward to being an active member here and asking alot of questions. Thanks for the great board Logan ! :D

Your great price was due to people finding out about Mercury Marauders buddy! I expect the price will keep going down, down, down. This car was advertized as a muscle sedan, and it's anything but! It's just a nice car, that's it! Three guys I work with have 94-96 Chevy Impala SS's, & I only raced one of them. Remember now, the Impala SS is the car with 30 HP less than our Marauders! Well, no need to race the other 2 Impala's, I lost sooo bad to the one I did race, it was embarrassing!!!
Happy New Year

Remember this though, the Impalas' may or may not have been modded. I don't know, you do. Either way, the Impala was not all that much faster stock out of the box than the Marauder.

Give your car time, then do some mods. Some guys on here are turning 14.8X at the track. Stock! That's good.

Get some gears, a higher stall maybe, Dennis' chip and tell us what you think. In my opinion, the Marauder is a good base to work with and will get better over time.

Welcome to home of the Marauder, with time you will appreciate the characteristics and base platform to build from of the Marauder. this is for obelcz, don't knock it till you can justify it.

As a 51 yr old motorhead that grew up and teethed on musclecars.
I knew exactly what I was getting BEFORE I bought it. I do not expect any disappointments either. I could have had an Impala in 94 and passed. Nuff said.

Has anyone else here been getting these nasty e-mails from obelcz, dissing our MM's? I think for someone with that much gripe about a car did not do his homework when he bought it...

obelcz: The MM has no were to go up! I am not far from you in Morrisville. Give it a chance. The base is the best to out of Detroit so far, IMHO.

We heard you. Maybe there is actually some engine problem with your Marauder. We have people running High 14's 1/4s, which is inline with what the Impala SS's ran when new. I ran a mid 15 my first time at the track. That is not slow, by any means.

Mr. Obelcz...

The Marauder is not the fastest car on the planet from 0 to around 30 mph or so (I believe mensrea's car still has that distinction), but it DOES get better once you put about 1500-2000 miles on it...it also responds very well to a performance chip, shorter gears, etc...

If your wife's Sable beat you by 1/2 a car length, though, I might respectfully suggest that there is something VERY wrong with your Marauder...

Well, most Troll's aren't very tall, so you're probably having trouble reaching the accelerator. Try moving your seat farther forward and you should be able to push the pedal all the way down.

Big deal. My Impala ran a 15.58 @ 89.65 out of the box, bone stock.

Any car that is easily modded is fun. However, I will add that Ford did kinda screwup with their website and all the burnouts.

If it wasn't for the price, I wouldn't mind having a new MM. I can think of hundreds of things I would do. I know for a fact mine would run 11s fairly soon......:D

In addition to that, he needs to find that little button that raises the pedals UP. :D

If a Sable beat me, I'd definately be going back to the dealership for a refund...

It seems obvious that obelcz is a net.troll.

I think ignoring/banning would be in order.

BTW, my own MM runs faster 1/4 mile ETs than a stock SS did.

Back to your cave, Troll.

I imagine he's really pissed right now. Consider all that e-mail he sent out to us. Consider all the arm twisting and promises he made to the little lady, just to get her permission to buy a Black Beauty of his own. That was big dollars over her Sable, and then she shuts him down with the rent-a-car centerfold of the year. Imagine his "guys at work" thingy...Ouch! Please think about that, and cut him some slack? Please? Let's all give obelcz some respect on this, eh? I, for one, would not want to be his salesman or service manager, would you?

What is meant by the reference to being a troll? Sorry if it's a dumb question. Just wanted to know if I am missing something.

Also... is it not ok to have a dissenting opinion? I absolutely love my car and am thrilled that I have it, but I can't say that obelcz really said anything that does not have at least some merit. Said it a little strong maybe in the midst of so many admirers, but it does not seem so unreasonable to me to expect that some of our car's weaknesses could have been addressed. Look at all the doe mensrea has spent to make this car a true terror. I feel that I will need to spend about four or five thousand to get the performance that I want.

I will say though, that my wife has a 2002 Sable with the Duratec DOHC 200hp engine. It is no slouch, but there is no way that it would be any where close to my Marauder by the time we hit 80.

James, a Troll is someone who comes to a board, as obelcz did, to only post something that will knowingly cause, and in such a manner as to cause turmoil and strife. They make outrageous statements in further posts only to provoke response (like about the Sable), and post similar in many other threads. Their purpose is to disrupt.
then they usually love to sit back and watch the fallout they created

Hi Sarge,

I was actually pretty easy on him. Obelcz is not a regular person on this board. He obviously came in to cause trouble. My suspicion is that he doesn't even own one.

A troll is a person who gets a kick from causing trouble on Internet forums. This phenomenon goes back all the way to early USENET in the 1980s and the Bulletin Board scene from the dawn of the modem.

Trolls deserve no respect and you shouldn't waste time discussing their comments other than to ridicule the Troll.

RCSignals posted a cute article on trolls in another thread.

Happy New Years to all of you (except Obelcz.)

Johnny

I have an idea........

Next time good ole Obelcz comes by for a visit we can offer him to take a run in one of our Marauders. Literally. We can attach him a few feet behind the rear bumper and then take off. We can see how long he keeps up, this will change his negative prospective of our car. Can you say road rash.

WolfeBros

Thanks for the welcome......and for the invite Logan. I just may be able to come. As it turns out I am still Marauer less. Went to pick up car at dealer yesterday afternoon. It was all washed and polished up in the delivery area of the dealership with the darkened window tints done.
Approached the car from the drivers side and immediately saw a 3" scratch thru the clearcoat from the handle to the keylock. I am thinking.. WTF ???!!! Grabbed salesman by the arm and drug him out to the car.....this time approaching it from the rear and noticed a 1/2" rock chip on the rocker panel down to the primer. Now I am ballistic.......I tell them they can stuff their 03MM. Salesman gets general manager of dealership who calms me down.....knocks another thousand off the sales price, tells me they will fix car and have it for me by Friday......and if I don't like the quality of repair to walk away no harm no foul. I did not have to close on the car until I was satisfied with it !! That extra thousand off puts the car at $ 27,752........I am waiting until Friday for that kind of savings. Will let you know if I take delivery.
(rest of car looked perfect)

My trunk lid got re-shot because of what looked like a chemical driped on the trunk during transport. I have been without it since last Thursday didn't even have it for a week. :-(
Usually these things are caught. You would be surprised of all the things that usually get fixed before a car is on the lot.
Even though I don't like the idea of my deck lid not being "factory", if I would of let it go it would of gotten worse. It is being fixed by a Ford body shop and I got a loaner car. I told them I wanted the whole deck resprayed, not just a touch up job. They agreed with me.

Hopefully I get it back tomorrow.

You're so correct. When my SS was in the shop not too long ago. I saw all these cars that looked like they needed a good spanking.

I get my SS back...and alas...where are they?

Hi WolfBros;
A little food for thought, when I got my MM it had a bad spot in the right front fender. So they said it would get fixed and I took it to the body shop which a friend owns and the painter is a great friend. Also a great painter. They had some trouble get the paint to match, but they did and a great job.
