View Full Version : Has anyone fixed the no FM problem themselves?

My FM went out on the beater today.
I would really like to replace the bad component and move along

However, I don't know what or where said component is

Any insight is appreciated

UPDATE:
I have determined it is losing both FM and AM. A few weeks ago, I had to disconnect my amplifier/sub because of excessive static (sub blown)
On the way to work today, I was able to keep the radio working properly the entire half hour, but I kept the volume really low.

I think there is an overheat problem going on.

Stone age , well yes . Some of us still have cassettes to play and every replacement radio available that works with the steering controls can not. Also the CD player in the trunk becomes useless. In time the smart guys with original equipment radios will yield more cash when they sell their collector car 15 years later. Nothing looks better than a radio in your dash built for the car in the same year the car was built.
Not the only stone age ( cassette ) radio I have, music is paid for and plan on keeping the car. My other ride I bought new in 1986, still have it today as good as the day purchased. Plays music just fine.

Within the first couple of months of buying the marauder the head unit was gone, the *****y factory sub was out, and installed 6x8 components in all four corners.

The subs were actually recent compared to when I purchased the car back in 2011.

I get why some keep it stock, but I just don't see how you guys can stand the terrible sound coming from any car in the panther platform.

I am a part of the new generation so I will gladly give up cassette tapes and trunk mounted cd changers for RCA outputs, USB, and a halfway decent EQ

But I digress, figure out whats wrong with your radio ZACK!!!!!!

Ford Audiophile unit to replace stock MM:

6L8T-18C815-FD

Runs the factory sub and there is no need for the stock changer as the audiophile system is a 6-disc in unit player. Everything is right at your finger tips including steering wheel control function.

I agree with Zack...I don't need a million watts of deafening one-note bass in my car. I like to listen to the sound of the car and to be able to hear what's going on around me.

The Blackbird has the stock head unit and sub, with Infinity Reference speakers in the corners and I'm quite pleased.

use car-part.com to search for the radio, it gives you the option of checking off the part number. I got one locally for $150.00. I would not pay $325.00 to ebay when you can get it for half

6L8T-18C815-FD

I have one that I took out of my centri car before selling, my present has some 11 year old dated alpine unit that cant even read in the daylight and other alpine stuff in the back so not sure if I can plug and play or go pioneer..no time to mess with it right now.

I just left work with the radio on the same low-volume as this morning.
It worked for five minutes, but the outside temperature also raised by 25 degrees
It is definitely heat related

I wonder if it simply needs some replacement capacitors
There has to be some nerd on the Internet who has figured out this problem and has a fix

Most likely, look for the ones that are bulging. Usually makes sense to replace them all, or at least all the ones in the power supply.
