While noodling around on Champion's site (no, I don't know WHY I was there  ), I found this:

"It is not suggested that platinum spark plugs be used with nitrous systems. HOWEVER, we have had no reports of any problems using Iridium plugs with nitrous injection."

They didn't explain WHY you shouldn't...any of you out there using nitrous care to enlighten the rest of us?

Because I, the 17 year old genius, discovered it makes a certain chain reaction creating a massive atomic explosion...

I suspect he's not far off. Platinum is a known catalyst for many organic solvent reactions. You get the nitrogen, various hydrocarbons, heat etc, who knows what might be produced! :)

James, test it out for us, would ya? "If you survive . . . come again! :)" Hapu from the Quick-e-mart.

Haha, I figured it was a good enough guess, either that the nitros would destroy the plugs.

Hey, I do an awesome Hapu impression.

The reason is that the tip of the platinum plug cannot cool down quick enough causing a hot spot for detination. Copper tip are the way to go for NAAAAWWWWSSSSS :)

You are right - they stay too hot and won't conduct elec. well.
The engineer at Denso said you need larger spark and their super hi-performance
Iridium plug ( IT20s etc. from DR) is the only kind that fits the bill.
Our engines are less likely to knock with these, ie. more HP.
I plan to add a ZEX sys. later and wanted to know.

I believe a Motorcraft AWSFA12C will also work. 2 steps colder and Copper tip.

When I had my MM tuned by Chris Johnson of Superchips Custom Tuning in Mobile last week, he alsmost took my head off for using Denso's to shoot juice and installed a set of the Mototrcrafts. They appear to respond especially well at the higher rpms and the insulators can handle the extreme chamber pressure caused by the nitrous. Since I'm using direct port injected nitrous, he said that it is the only plug he'd recommend for the application. He also said that they needed to be changed every 10k. But at $24.00 a set, it's not too tall an order.
