Head lamp dust caps inquiry

Ok so i ordered some extra dust caps so when i do HIDs i can make a hole for the wires to come through. I have the twist on hard caps. The ones i got where soft rubber. Was there a change between 03 and 04?

Anyway i decided not to use my stock housings because they have gotten hazy and i bought replacements. One side is eagle eyes and its got a hard cap but different from factory. The passenger side is from tyc and accepts the soft rubber style with no provision to accept a hard cap

Im mainly curious about this difference. Thanks

Change made from 2003 to 2004.

All 04's and all service Lamps had the rubber push on caps. FYI, same cap used on similiar year Explorers and Focus. I find them in the Pickapart yards and pull them.
