View Full Version : Ticking sound after replacing timing components

Just got the car back together after dropping a tap in the head. Replaced timing chains tensioners and guides while i had it a part also put a new water pump on. Started her up and now getting a ticking or tapping from the front of the motor. The sound is good coming out the pipes. Puzzeled to what it could be.

You must have done something wrong when you reassembled it.

How far apart did you take it? Heads stayed on?

set the crank mark at 6, right about 11, and left about 12 when i put the chains on the marks lined up how they should.

Is the head new or rebuilt? If so, is there a plug behind the passenger side tensioner by chance?

sounds like the cam shaft bolts are loose.

I think i found it took the cam cover off. Checked the primary cam sprocket the bolt was loose, twisted it off by hand. Wont be sure if that's the problem until i put it back together and turn it on but i think that is it.
