Please if this is taboo discussion on a public forum let me know and delete immediately. Just looking for pointer on doing this, I have a welder but hate to drop the entire exhaust to weld the top, is there a bolt on option? This car is my DD so not looking to go crazy on cost or performance, mainly just want to give her a little more rumble. My plans for the car are just cold air kit, rear cat delete, muffler, and reprogram....maybe 4.10's eventually.

Take the old cats out, weld or clamp in straight pipes.... easy peezy....

No bolt-on option. Cut right in front of the rear cat and right behind it, weld in a new piece of pipe, tada.

This is the front section of my stock-ish exhaust with the 2nd set of cats removed.

Thanks for the pics, helps to have a visual, thats what I figured no bolt on, looks like i will be dropping the exhaust, guess I might as well wait until I can buy mufflers and do it all at once!

How hard are the bolts at the manifold to get out typically?

It would probably be better to wait until you can knock it out all out at once, that way you won't have to keep cutting it up. What're you thinking for mufflers?

It's actually a straight shot piece you can weld in, no bends necessary

I have a friend who has his done, bought the single end pre flared pipe at napa and slipped it in then welded the ends

You might not need to drop the exhaust

Stock stuff is thin!

Havent decided yet, still looking....er listening around! Dont want anything too obnoxious as it is a DD. May just try the cat delete first and see how that sounds.

"When I did mine a few years ago, I just used an electricians flexible drill bit with a 1" auger on it. That tore all the ceramic right apart then I used a metal coat hanger to get the wire screen that surrounds the ceramic out. No cutting, no welding, no 2nd cats!"

I have a welder and means to straight pipe, probably just go that route and do muffler at same time, weld it all up and make it look pretty. Who knows maybe I can save a few extra dollars and switch the H pipe for an X.

My opinion these cars sound better with h pipe. My x pipe will be changed to an h pipe at some point. Others do like the x pipe sound. Not my oreference

^^^+10^^^ on the "H-Pipe" instead of an "X-Pipe"!!!

We put an "X" on mine first and it sounded like a pair of Hondas with "Fart Can" mufflers.......ZIPPY and really bad!!:mad2::argue:

Depending on your system an "X" can sound OK but I sure don't know how to do it!!:shake: An "H" always sounds good and makes about 2 less HP......maybe??

Good Luck!!:beer::burnout:

In that case I am saving the coin for another improvement and keeping the H, I was thinking more for HP for swapping but for only 2 more HP the H can stay.

Folks will say more but for me the sound is worth sacrificing a few HP!!;)

Those who have a complete stock exhaust and remove the second set of cats say the exhaust note increase was just what they were looking for.

No rear cats on my car. Pretty quiet at idle gets a little rowdy at WOT. Still not loud enough to my liking.

Thinking I will try the cat delete first, really don't want too loud, my 2000 Stang I just sold was LOUD! So loud it was hard to talk on the phone on the highway (of course the 3.73 gears keeping the revs up didn't help that either) so now kind of digging the quietness. Also thought about installing electric exhaust dumps in the cat delete pipe so I can flip a switch and go loud when it's time to play! Even thought of the perfect spot to put the switch, forward end of the overhead console by the windshield, nice and hidden!

The shop I went to only charged me $80 to have the cats cut & pipe welded in it's place.

I've got just the rear cat delete. It really gives the car a nice growl on acceleration but cruising there's almost no difference between no cats and stock. I cut the cats out and welded in straight pipes. I think it cost me $25 bucks in parts all told.

Loud exhaust is funny until you live with it for a while! When I was a teenager I drove around with open headers for a week until I could get exhaust on the car. You could hear that thing for miles.

My passenger side rod that the cut out door mounts to broke clean in half when I was leaving the hotel in Louisville for my 5 1/2 hr ride home with my wife... We stopped and removed the broken shaft and opened the drivers side to balance out the engine. It was one VERY long ride home. She's a trooper!

Needless to say they were removed, rebuilt, and shelved..

That
I think mine are done too. 2 days in a row, suspension is deflated. Already replaced pump and level sensor some time back. Good timing actually. Next week I am replacing the Watts link and sway bar. Even if they are still working, it's time to do some preventative maintenance.
Holding on to your coat tails, after reading these posts, I have a question about the level, sensor. I've also replaced pump and control module, car still sets low can't seem to get it right does anyone have any ideas where to go with this issue
