Hey guys, thinking that the bcm has given it up this morning.
Have gotten an electrical smell a few times in the last couple weeks, but couldn't figure what it was. Any how no blower this morning. BCM?
Best place to get one? Aftermarket or dealer only?
Remove it and re-solder.
That's all it needs

Guessing the issue will be obvious?

Most likely.
The solder joint fails.

Electrical smell=burning wires=fire? Not necessarily in this case.
The heat sink for the switching transistor that has the bad solder joints sticks right out in the HVAC airflow, so even the relatively small amount of heat/smell from the bad solder joint(s) will be easily detectable.

Bad solder joint = higher resistance = possible burning smell.
If you are going to buy one ONLY get a Motorcraft one, about $75.00. Aftermarket BCM's have a very short life and sometimes don't work at all.
I have repaired BCM's available. PM me if interested.

Thanks again Zack!
Back in action, just had one terminal that looked questionable. Was one of the large terminals were it was soldered to the board.
30 minutes and $0 dollars! :coolman:
Gotta love that.

Guessing it was 30 minutes. Got it out in 15 minutes, wife called in to dinner, repaired and reinstalled. Was maybe an hour and half from the time I got home until done, but that included putting a big fan on the car to cool, poopy time, and dinner. Hope that's enough info? :D

Interesting, my blower fan has decided to be possessed and turns on and off randomly.
I assume I'm dealing with the same problem?
Anyone got pics or any more detail re removal etc?
Thanks
Bob

You need a soldering iron that is big enough, wattage wise to repair it.

Checked out the link. That was the same issue mine had. Didn't really look like it was broke, but was discolored from heat.

Just gave it a tap, now working ,but from reading here that's temporary.
Still looks like a ***** to remove, think I'll wait and put that on my winter maintenance schedule.
Thanks as always for everybody who is always so helpful.

9/4/2015 - calendar marked. Zack said a job is tough
A Coyote swap is simple.

I must be simple and not tough
