View Full Version : Number 7 cylinder problems

I've been experiencing some spark plug issues with cylinder 7, for some reason it keeps getting shut closed by the piston during hard acceleration. More often now then before but I'm not sure if it's because I tightened it down to much or if there is a piston issue here..
What do you guys think?

its an aluminum head, cant tighten too much or you'll rip the threads out and the plug will be down further. there are torque values for plugs, although most don't use them

If the piston is striking the spark plug and closing the gap I would be VERY concerned. Perhaps you should check the plugs you are using to see if they are of the proper reach. Maybe get a set of Motorcraft plugs and install them? You may have the wrong plugs in that engine. It is possible that there is carbon build up on top of the piston causing the issue, but I would be more interested in looking at the spark plugs.

Boroscope the cylinder. I'll bet you have a broken ring land.

If ya broke the top land......it will run fine once you blow the pieces out......no blowby at all.......experience speaking here!!:shake:

^this. Put in a new plug and run it till another small piece breaks off. If it's the ring land then it's just a matter of time. Usually they run just perfectly fine till enough comes off.

Windowed block ;) lol
Op. You can save the motor if you take precautions now, I'd look down the hole with a scope and do a leak down on the cyl to find out what's going on
The rod didn't stretch and the plug is the correct length, hope you don't decide to blow it up

I'll take a look inside the cylinder and see what I can find. I'll use my scope with a magnet attached

If you find ANYTHING magnetic......DO NOT RUN IT AGAIN!!:shake:

This is why I don't put a blower on my stock engine.

I would never drive a Marauder again without a blower. Just sayin'. And some people's cars last hundreds of thousands of miles, some last a hundred miles. :) Luck of the draw among other factors.

You'll get no argument from me the Marauder needs more power. But cast pistons, rings gapped for NA operation, and a blower don't go together. There is just no margin left.

That's why I have forged pistons and rods

My engine was yanked in favor of upgrading with 60,000 hard blown miles. It was tip top condition when pulled. Maintenance reaps rewards..

To even suggest a stock 4.6l cannot handle boost is silly, and a mute point.

Well maybe a small one............ If you don't test the limits of something, how do you establish a breaking point? If/when it breaks I will fix it correctly.
My stock block turbo buick 3.8L is still together after 10+ years of 29psi. Been wanting to build an engine for it for years................

Mine went 172K miles with the blower.......had 84K miles on it when I installed the blower!!
Bad load of gas.....BOOM......rebuilt and goin' at it again!!:burnout: :D
It's all in the tune and of course PROPER FUEL and an OEM motor will last a loooooong time......BLOWN!!;)
