You can take it apart and try cleaning it.

Does it just pop off or do I have to go thru behind the panel?

It's a bïtch to get that thing out. I'd find a replacement before tearing the door apart, in case you can't restore the one you have.
The quick check is to try each button separately when it is dark enough to see it light up in response to a button push. Of course you need to wait until the light goes back off before trying another button. If one of the buttons that is used in your car's code won't light it up then the problem can probably be fixed by taking it apart and cleaning it. If none of them cause it to light up then there may be another problem.
In the last month or so someone cleaned the contacts in theirs and posted the pictures. It comes apart pretty easy and there are just some copper pads that are bridged by discs in the back of the buttons. Just make sure to pay attention to the direction the pad goes on relative to the housing so you don't put it back together upside down.

It still works and lights up at night time I just have to press them pretty hard now for them to function. I guess a cleaning would be My best bet. Thanks guys.
