Guys... I know this is probably out there somewhere. But I wanted to cut thru the chase. (On my iPhone). I have a 2003 marauder , bone stock suspension and 40k miles. Noticed today the tires are dry rotted bad in the tread.
What's the max size that'll fit without rubbing??
Currently 255s on the rear 235s on the front. Good year run flats... And it's riding like crap...

Run flats is why it rides like crap. Stock rims, stay 235 front and either 245 or 255 rear In my opinion. Buy nitto motivos or cooper Zeon rs3a for tread wear and all around wet and dry perfofmsnce

I have 295/45 on rears, no rubbing, but should be on a widened rim.
RCR posted sizes sound right for stock rims.
I have Hankooks and love them.

Mine has a 255 sumitommo on the back, these suck in the rain and worse on wet pavement
I can also say p-zero Pirelli all seasons do better in the rain, but suck on dry pavement
Hope whatever you decide to get is better than what I've delt with

The biggest I've seen is a 305/40 or 45R18. I don't know if Goodyear makes a tire that big, but I'm using F1 Supercars & have nothing but good things to say about them.

On a stock 8" wide rim all you're doing is bending the sidewall, which hurts handling. Unless you're widening or replacing the wheels I would stick with the stock tire size or +10 mm max.
Although run-flats are not known for ride quality, old shocks are the most common cause of poor ride quality. 40K miles or not, your shocks are old.

Agree 100%. This car sat more than it was used. Replace with oem equipment??

The popular choice for inexpensive shocks on this forum appears to be KYB with the firmer valving (they make two versions). I used something different. The OEM Tokico shocks (which were excellent) are no longer in production, although Ford will still sell you a Crown Vic shock for the car.

They don't make oem equipment for shocks for marauder anymore. They use a marquis part and that's not proper ratings

my 295/45 sidewalls are like big donuts. I need to have wider rims to get the sidewalls straight.
I missed he only has 40k on a 12 year old car.
My brother recently got an 05 GM with 36k, handling/ride was so poor thought he bought a lemon....
We put new Monroe severe duty front/rear, Moog springs and new sway bar bushings - car feels like a rally car!

+1 Motivos, 235/50 & 255/55. Rear tires fill up wheel well a little more. Nice quite comfortable ride. More freeway cruiser tires than hard cornering/ racier.
If racier go 555

Widened wheels here with 295 Nittos 555s for daily use. When they wear out I'm going to try the 555 drag radial.

The Firestones are decent tires. They don't have quite the ultimate grip and quick sidewall reaction of the BFG KDWS, but given you can't buy BFG anymore are probably a good choice.

When I had 255s on the rear I noticed the ABS would kick in prematurely. The car hates it when you don't obey the programmed stagger.

I've been debating on the motivo's and the firehawk wide ovals. The Nittos will cost about $150 more (bought from store vs firehawks from tire rack).
I have also looked into the coopers. The guy at the store said he gets a ton of complaints on the coopers....road noise.
I know I want the stock stagger (I have 235/50 on all 4 corners right now) but still trying to decide on tire.

Try the nittos thru discounttiredirect.com.. they generally have free shipping and online incentives of save $40-50 bucks for online order.

Thanks a lot. This is website will put the nitto's right there with the Firestone tires as far as cost. Cooper Zeon tires got some great reviews on that site compared to the Nitto's....and slightly cheaper. I think I'll try the Coopers.

I had the coopers on my previous marauder. I liked them. Rode good , stuck to the road wet and dry. Any tire gets noisy as it wears. These are not Cadillacs and Maybachs

How about the Yokohama yk580? Looking at 235/50 front and 255/55 rear- car has been lowered.

Never noticed this. When I researched it, the sizes were at the big end of the spread... But within tolerance.
Never felt it overtake.

Could be another option to choose from, they look similar in tread to the Cooper Zeon RS3A and Continental Extreme Contact. Check the specs, weight rating etc. to other tires that are used for same size like Nittos or another brand and if same then prolly another good choice.
