View Full Version : Fog lights out - fuse good

Just noticed my fog lamps will not light up. I don't know for sure if I have seen them on before. Besides the fuse, what would cause both lights to be out? My bumper was recently removed again for repainted but I warned the shop about pinching wires this time.

Pinched wires, bulbs, corrosion in the negative wire in the harness, bad sockets, switch, LCM.......

Check the bulbs. I always look at the reflection of my car off other cars to make sure my fogs are lit. One day they were on and the next they were both off. I checked the fuse and then the wiring, it turned out to be burned out light bulbs. I couldn't believe they both went at the same time, but it happens

The sockets are notorious for being bad.

Plus it's possible the bulbs went bad from rough handling when the bumper was being R & R'd again...

Sorry, I should have been clear. It was the rear bumper removed again. There were wiring issues after the first time.

I tried reaching up with one hand while lying on the ground to remove the bulbs. Not successful. What's the trick to remove these bulbs?

Driver's side: turn the wheels to the passenger side and stick your hand in, there is no splash shield.

Passenger side: turn wheels towards the driver's side and reach in between the splash shields..... If I could fit my arms in there, I'm sure you could too lol.

I should mention, I normally lay on my back with my legs in front of the car.

I am able to reach the bulb and twist it out of the housing, but unplugging it from the socket with one hand...? nope.

Unplug the harness at the first connection.

Check (with a test light) if you are getting power to one of the pins or sockets in the remaining harness.

Bulb looks good. Getting 3mV measured at the first connector. Hm. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/16/d01e79a6915cf80b515c79f754a16b 35.jpg

Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

So the 3mV you are getting is 0.003volts. You should have a full 12 volts to the bulb socket or the bulbs won't light.

I've also seen corrosion in the negative lead so you should have 0 or as close to 0 Ohms at the negative lead.

Both the drivers side and the passengers side fenders have an access flap secured by velcro. The flap lies horizontally in front of each wheel, and is hinged at the end closer to the front bumper (the flap is part of assembly 8327 in the attached PDF). Push up on the flap, starting at the wheel, separating the velcro strips until you reach the front of the flap, et voilą - access is granted.
I should point out that the loop-side of the velcro is attached to the soft, movable flap, while the hook-side of the velcro is attached to the stiffer plastic shield that doesn't move. Both strips of the velcro are attached by staples, and staples and soft plastics do not mix very well. So if you're going to pull them apart, pull slowly or you might yank some of the staples through the plastic shield and/or flap.

It is fuse # 18 which also looks fine. I will try to swap the fuse just in case my eyes are fooled.

Sometimes the fuse "looks" good when it isn't. Try swapping with another fuse that works. There can also be corrosion on the fuse blades or the contacts in the socket.

You should always have a set of spare fuses in your car.

I have them. Just did not try it first. You guys all seem to have a lot of corrosion issues. I'm very lucky in that regard - for now anyway. Will try the fuse tonight.

I've seen the ground corrosion on a few Marauders.....

Interesting fact about the Marauder lighting system: The fog light circuit is switched with the key, unlike the headlights which will remain on when the key is off.

I'm surprised you guys did not mention this.

No bulbs or fuses needed.

Its going on 4 days chasing down 2 bulbs not lighting up.

Can you please put the effort into the solution?

That's what I'm saying. All I had to do was turn the key on and they lit up. I have a couple extra bulbs now.
