My 2004 marauder , now has 165,872 miles. 3/4 months ago I noticed a vibration while driving. It seemed to come from the transmission. Kind of like you're going over rumble Strips. It seems to happen at 20 to 35 mph. Then it went away completely. Now it came back, and seems to be slipping a bit. When I start out from a stop, it takes a few seconds to catch at times, you will hear a slight revving and then it will go into gear. It also seems to be happening at 20
To 30 miles an hour. It'll revve slightly for half a second and then catch.
The fluid looked Okay no dark color but not completely pink. I can't smell too much of a burnt smell. So I don't know if it needs a slight adjustment or it might be more serious. Bringimg it to a good transmission shop tomorrow morning .
Would appreciate some advice. I did change or get 4 quarts of fluid put in about a year and a half ago .

You can try changing the fluid and the filter.

Pull the pan and see if there is any debris in the bottom. If so you in for a rebuild.

Thank you for the advice fastback Merc thank you for the advice fastback Merc. I'll have them change the fluid in the filter. Hope that it won't have to be a rebuilt transmission. How much is that run I think about 1000 bucks

Ok I got a quote from a mechanic about a year ago that said 1000 but I guess he was off by a bit

It will vary by location, I had a cvpi trans rebuilt like 8 years ago and was ?1590.00 depends on what is tone and what is replaced

Well the trans shop checked out my car. They said the fluid level seemed to high. They
Then showed me the pan. Water had gotten into the transmission mixing with the
Fluid. They asked if it had even been in a flood or under water. That NEVER happened.
They said the trans cooler is mounted near the radiator. But that is sealed so water could
Not get in there. Maybe thru the dipstick but that is covered by the hood. So even if the dipstick was not fully pushed in after checking the fluid level. I can't see how water could have gotten in the trans. The dipstick was rusty. So maybe it was NOT in fully and water got in. $2300.00 to rebuild. Advise guys. I WOULD HATE to get rid of her

Maybe buy a used trans. There is a member parting out a car in KS right now in the forsale parts section. Pm member grandmarq88. He is well versed in the trans for marauders. Try car-part.com to search for a trans.
Other members with more trans knowledge than me should reply at some point.

Cant get rid of it with a broken trans. You would lose $$ hard to sell a car that is broke..pretty much get salvage value for them at that point.

Is it a dealer? or regular trans only shop?
can buy a warrantied reman. one from ford but they are $3000 ish

2300?? LMAO.

This trans is so stinkin easy to rebuild.

I wouldn't pay more than 750 to anyone to rebuild it. (1000 if they R&R)

I had my trans built to handle 800rwhp for $1200

some used ones on ebay I saw a few 04's, a reman one as well with warranty. I would all to some other shops nd ask for their rebuild price

When you shop for mechanic prices, do not ever take your car.... it's a guarantee they will give u a high price... at least that happens to me all the time... that's why I take my gran marq when I need something done to the Marauder... lol

Most wouldn't know the difference between a CV, GM or Marauder!

It is a independent shop. May be better to get a tranny from a wrecked Marauder then to rebuild MY trans $2300.00

1200$ MUCH better then $2300.00

If the transmission has water in it you will need a full rebuild. the glue use to bond the friction material to the steel backing is water soluble.

Sadly there was some metal shavings. Also Water go into the transmission. I believe thru the dipstick. As it may have not been "clicked" or fully closed at some point over the last 6 months

would LOVE to find a place that would do it for 1200$. I live in Rockland County NY. So maybe a shop in NJ or even Westcheser NY to do it for less then the $2300.00 I wqas quoted

Sadly I may have to do a re-built soon. The water just got in BC the dipstick may have not been closed up tight

The following is from the 2003 owner's manual on page 136.

DRIVING THROUGH WATER
Do not drive quickly through standing water, especially if the depth is
unknown. Traction or brake capability may be limited and if the ignition
system gets wet, your engine may stall. Water may also enter your
engine’s air intake and severely damage your engine.
If driving through deep or standing water is unavoidable, proceed very
slowly. Never drive through water that is higher than the bottom of the
hubs (for trucks) or the bottom of the wheel rims (for cars).
Once through the water, always try the brakes. Wet brakes do not stop
the vehicle as effectively as dry brakes. Drying can be improved by
moving your vehicle slowly while applying light pressure on the brake
pedal.
Driving through deep water where the transmission vent tube is
submerged may allow water into the transmission and cause
internal transmission damage. Have the fluid checked and, if
water is found, replace the fluid.

I would definitely call a few shops and ask about a rebuild. One quote is not enough to make an educated decision....especially if this will force you to get rid of the car.

Are there any online "how-to's"?

I hope that draining out the water with a fluid change and new filter MAY have been in time to minimize the damage

One day after the service. The trans STOPPED any vibration or slipping.. For now it is shifting very smoothly quitely and more efficiently. So hope the service was in time to minimize the water damage. Hopefully not needed a rebuild

This happened in my 2006 Taurus with the AX4N. The Mercon V fluid has a friction modifier in it and after doing a fluid/filter change THEN a complete running flush it went away. That was almost 3 years ago.

Since it's working better I'd be tempted to do a complete flush and refill with new Mercon V.
