My headlights / dash gauge lights come on when I have my windshield wipers on... very annoying. what is the procedure to remove the LCM? What relays are responsible and what are the P/N's so I can fix this catastrophe?

Fastblackmerc had no idea what was going on with my car on a thread here last month

Apparently that's a normal feature, turn the wipers on and the headlights and dash gauge lights come on

Mine does it with light switch in the off position, I guess normally just happens in the auto mode

What mode is your switch in?

I believe that there are a number of states that require headlights to be on when the wipers are on. Ford is just helping you avoid getting a ticket. It may just be a secondary offense, same as seat belts are in some places. Any lawyers care to weigh in?

There is no problem with your LCM.

Your Marauder is working as designed.

From the '04 Owners Manual - page 38
"The exterior lamps will turn on with the ignition on, Headlamp control in the Autolamp position and the windshield wipers are turned on."

From the '03 Owners Manual - page 49
"The exterior lamps will illuminate after 10-20 delay when the ignition is ON and the windshield wiper control is in the LO or HI position. The lights will remain on for 30 seconds after the wipers are turned off."

Just an FYI..... if the exterior lights are on, the instrument cluster lights are on also.

Yes the headlights will come on with the wipers. Normal operation there. If you need wipers because it is raining don't you want you headlights and tail lights on for better visibility to other road users? Just a thought.

I believe if your '03 LCM was replaced with a newer P/N LCM the wipers would work like the '04.

Is your light switch set to auto?

Mines not set to auto and verified today

Headlight switch off, turn on wipers, 10-15 seconds later my headlights turn on

Was driving in the rain today, was nice my headlights come on by themselves even with the switch off

I love this feature!

As others have mentioned that is what is supposed to happen.

However if you really want to eliminate that safety feature you can disconnect the wire that runs between the wiper motor and LCM. For the 03 it shows as a Black with Pink tracer. Though that may not be the only Bk/Pk at the LCM and may not hold true if you have an 04.

"you can disconnect the wire that runs between the wiper motor and LCM"

are there any ill effects of doing this? I HATE this feature. The weather is super spazmodic where I live, and I've had my headlights go off and on nearly a dozen times in the course of a drive.

As long as you properly insulate the terminal you remove from the connector or where you cut it I can't see any ill effects. It justs acts as yet another input the LCM uses to tell it to turn on.
