View Full Version : Broken oil sender

The tip of oil sender is busted off by the oil filter, I'm thinking about a real oil pressure gauge anyway, good excuse to get the real deal?
Does the better oil sender go in the same place as the stocker?
Prolly another Jegs link, thanks for helping me out!

^^^this is just the sending unit..it wont make your factory gauge into a real one, still need a real autometer or supplier of your choice gauge

I read on this site somewhere that a swap of the sender unit would suffice. whats the difference between the factory gauge and a replacement autometer gauge

I have the guage that I bought on here years ago but it did not have the sender.
Thanks Bob! It was almost ten bucks less @ Summit than Jeggs!

Prices vary between the two on some items, don't care. I save a LOT more in the aggravation dept with Summits stupid quick shipping. Seems every order through Jegs is delayed. Probably just a geographical thing I'm sure.

So just get a new Auto Meter gauge that comes with the sending unit and hook it up without having to run an oil line in the car?

Yes.
Use an electric guage NOT a mechanical guage.

read this one...it does not work by adding a sending unit

Just adding the new sender won't do s**t. You'll still have an idiot gauge. The "real" gauge will react to changes in oil pressure in relation to the engine RPMs. The OEM gauge reads good oil pressure as long as there is some PSI on the sending unit end.
Replacement Gauges – Autometer (2 1/16)
Oil Pressure – 4327 w/ sending unit
Voltmeter – 4391
If you need a new sending unit:
Oil Pressure sending unit – 2242

In these cars there really is no reason not to use an electric gauge.

Changing out the oil pressure gauge to a real one is a no-brainer, but what is another useful gauge to replace the voltmeter? Any favorites for these cars?

I did the Autometer oil sender/gauge swap years ago, but the oil sender started leaking oil recently. I was wondering if this was a common issue and if there was a higher quality one I should be looking for, or is mine just a fluke and the autometer one is fine?

Now I think I should have painted it just to hedge on corrosion, you can't believe how much the parts are deteriorated from the Midwest climate , driving year round.
