Question. What's out there for 3" (over the axle) exhaust systems or do I need to go to a mandrel bent exhaust shop? Thanks! :help:

If StainlessWorks doesn't make it, it's custom. Mandrel Bending Solutions in Maryland may have a program to bend a system. Check with Ctrlraven he knows the guy.

A 3" exhaust will be custom. SW's exhaust is 3" only to the X pipe. The mufflers accept a 3" pipe at the inlet but only have a 2 1/2" opening at the inlet, it's a huge restriction point.

Will need to be a custom install.

Thanks guys. I was thinking along the custom lines. I'll give the guys in MD a call. They're not too far away from me. Thanks again!

My friend (Greg) no longer works at Mandrel Bending Solutions (he wanted to do something else) but MBS can still take care of whatever you need.

Because I want to try something different.

The factory system is a pretty good flowing system straight from Mercury. The choke point is the mid-pipe where for some reason the pin head engineers decided it needed to size down from 2 1/4" to 2". Replace that and you'll be as good as needed for an N/A car. I wouldn't go above 2 1/2" unless I was putting down some really serious HP #'s.

I did a custom 3" Vband exhaust, best mod i ever could have done, car breaths so much better, at some point I'll get it back on the dyno to see what gains if any it makes.

3" piping would be bad for a N/A motor?
I have nitrous so would it only benefit when i spray or so? Ive been thinking of getting 3" exhaust as well...

Torque would suffer but high rpm hp may slightly increase but not much to even make it worth it, 2.5" is plenty enough the MM under 500hp especially with headers, one set of cats and high flow mufflers.
I wouldn't do a 3" exhaust if spray was the only power adder, nitrous adds torque, without proper back-pressure low end torque figures will drop some. Now using nitrous could be a way to recover the lost torque and add some as well though.
