View Full Version : Lowering springs??

So per my previous posts,
I've tried the factory coil springs with 1 coil cut and although the looks and handling were great the ride just wasn't for me.
I now have the factory height springs back in but I also have the awful,
4X4 look space back between tire and wheel well opening (you know the one).
I guess it wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't seen how good it looks with the cut coils.:depress:
Now what I"d like is to find the springs that gives me the factory ride and also lowers the front 1 to 2 inches.
I think I've seen something about Eaton having part #'s that will work with our cars.
Can anyone share those part #s or any other spring brand name?
As always,
thanks in advance.

You could always have custom springs made by Coil Spring Specialties (coilsprings.com) I've heard both good & bad things about the Eaton springs. Those come in 1" & 1.5" drop heights, but those are from the P71 height.
You wouldn't happen to still have those cut springs, would you?

Yes I just put on Detroit Eaton springs on my Marauder. The ones I got were the 1.5" lowering kit for the 2004 Police Interceptor. I paired those with the KYBs. These actually lower the Marauder about .6"-.7" lower than factory.

how is the ride quality compared to the Air Ditcher replacement strut/springs?
How much did your nose drop from them to the Eatons?

Ride quality is much stiffer. Better matches the rear air suspension in terms of tightness. The front dropped 2 inches from the AirDitcher shocks and springs. But thats because those are meant for the GrandMarquis and CrownVic cars.

As suspected.

Sorry to post on such an old thread but your combination of eaton springs and kyb's is exactly what I was thinking. I don't have air suspension in the rear as PO converted when it went out, (Don't know what I have now). Will the Eaton rear springs for the CVPI work for our rear as well with the kyb's

Any part numbers?

Eaton Springs PN
MC3895 for the rears.
MC5412 for the fronts.
Paired with KYB's gas-a-just shocks. I know they work for the front and rears as others have had them. But was wondering how much -1.5" would lower the marauder as the rear springs are meant for the CV. I believe 03Merc has the Eatons -1.5 in the Front, and it looks perfect

I cut only 1/2 coil, yes 1/2 coil. Many said "Why do all that work for only 1/2 coil" but the results were perfect. It lowered the car 3/4 of one inch after the car settled. Car looks stock, spaces abov.e and around tire front and rear are now even (two fingers vertically), and it sits perfectly in my humble opinion.

I test drove a MM with the shorter and or fully cut coils (every car is different) and it felt slammed and low. Not bad, just slammed and low, soI was scared to cut more. Just me. I am a ninny.
