8.8 Differential and 31 Spline Axles

I've got a funny sound that seems to be coming from my rear end. It could be caused by the chipped teeth on my spider gears or bad axles or bearings. Regardless, I want to get a new differential and axles.

From a Sticky thread, I found this part number for the axles.

Two(2) Ford 31 spline axle shafts: 6W1Z-4234-A

And a new differential from American Muscle for $229.

I'm going to re-use my 4.10 gears and leave the pinion gear in place.

I'm going to have a local shop do the work. Besides axle bearings, seals, lube and friction modifier, is there anything else I need?

You need to take the pinion out and change the bearings too. You have metal debris in there from axle/bearing wear.

And you really need to thoroughly clean out the housing.

I have a nice used set, the tech that took them out said they liked ok great and he's only does rears. $80 shipped
