They will only replace them if the dealer can duplicate a headlight concern and diagnoses a faulty LCM.

I don't have a letter but I knew that it exists. I went to the dealer and said my headlights are acting up (they really are). The guy didn't test anything. He ordered a new LCM and said he would call me when it came in.

I got my letter in the Mail Friday morning.
I wrote on the Envelope what it was about and put it in the glove box of the car for the If and When moment happens , I don't have to go looking for it.
I sure wish Ford would institute a recall for the Intake Manifiolds on the SOHC 4.6L.....that would sure make me happy.

I received two letters, one each for my two Mercury Marauders. I went to ford for my original owner vehicle letter with bill for new part replaced one year prior. Waiting to see if Ford will honor money back for part only. I installed part myself. This paperwork was submitted more then 1 week. I am waiting for response.

Good Luck! You would think they'd honor it being the LCM's are basically recalled...

I also received one which is nice since I am second owner. Does anyone know the failure rate of the LCM? What are the chances it will go bad? They are giving it 15 yrs, so 2018 is my deadline.

Since the headlight relay inside the LCM fails I venture to guess that the failure rate is tied to the amount of time the headlights are on. IMHO.... the longer the headlights are on or used the sooner relay will fail.

If anyone has gotten a new LCM I'd like to see the relays that they are now using.
If anyone is willing to open a new LCM and take a picture of the relays I'd appreciate it.

My dealer didn't question me at all. I called, told them that I had had issues with the headlights flickering (which was due to s*** HID's, not the LCM), and that I'd like to bring it in to have the recall done. The service writer never questioned the issue or said it needed to be diagnosed/confirmed.
They scheduled an appointment for the following week, per my availablity. The service writer did tell me that they had to overnight the LCM from Michigan and that he would set it aside with an open RO so it would be ready when I came in.
I dropped it off around noon, walked across to the parking lot for a burger and a beer, and by the time I paid the check I was getting a phone call saying it was done. I got several compliments from the staff about her too! Couldn't have been a smoother operation.

I should clarify, the dealer instructions are to replace for no cost the LCM if they diagnose the concern, which would involve duplicating the no-headlight concern, however it can be pretty easy to find a dealer who will replace the LCM without even looking at the car.

I got a very early LCM from before the letters came out, the 2nd day after dealers were notified of the recall. A look inside at the relays looked identical to the old one. Also during the intergalactic backorder, Ford authorized our shop to install several aftermarket (Dorman) LCM's for customers who complained about the delay in availability, although I believe we are past that level of backorder.
There is no indication from Ford that these new LCM's have been changed at all from the factory ones.

I doubt that anything has changed either. The new LCM will fail again. This time it will be out of any type of warranty.

Got my 2nd letter on the LCM yesterday. I took the MM in for service after I received the first letter about 9 months ago. The service department verified the problem and ordered the part. Replacement LCMs are on a huge back-order. I've been waiting 9 months and haven't gotten a call back on my part. Don't expect a quick fix unless FORD has fixed the parts backlog problem.

Same here for the Black car. The SB LCM went bad about a week before the warranty came out. Waited about 3 weeks for Ford to get one.

I tried the same thing today. I told them I wanted to do the labor myself, asked if I could go in and pick up the part. Parts manager told me they can't do that due to Ford policy. Maybe you got a guy that didn't care? I'm going to try the other dealers in the area to see what they say. Any other suggestions?

So I'm getting told to kick sand with this. This is a video showing what my car is doing:
I can't get the youtube video to imbed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttJ64h0Ls9I
When the LCM makes a click and the lights turn off, the following lights cease functionality: Full headlights, Full high beams, fog lamps, parking lamps, tail lights. The following lights maintain functionality: daytime running lights, brake lights (only when braking, not running tail lights). As seen in the video, wrapping on the box fixes the problem often. Yet the dealer claims that because the car throws code B1472 instead of B1342 I'm **** out of luck.
What should I do? I've never had a car with this many electronics before.

I just did a google search on that code. Apparently it means that there is a short to ground in the headlight circuit. I guess they are claiming that it broke due to a short frying it, so they don't have to count it under the recall??? Maybe try resetting your ECU codes and go to a different dealership. If it throws the same code again, then maybe you really do have a short somewhere that is damaging the LCM. If that's the case, you need to fix it, or it will just break again.
I just want to mention, are you sure that those are the daytime running lights and not the headlights? I ask this because I had this exact problem with my LCM, and I don't have daytime running lights. My headlights would work, but my parking lights, tail lights and fog lights were dead. This happened years ago, so it was long before Ford issued the recall. I already replaced my headlight relay at this point, and no one could tell me which of the remaining relays in the LCM controlled the parking lights, so I just replaced the remaining 3 relays since I didn't know which one was bad. Luckily for me, I'm very handy with a soldering iron, so I was able to fix it for less than $25.

Yeah that's what the code 'means' but as far as I'm concerned it seems likely that the short to ground is at or in the LCM itself, given the tap-tap fixed thing. Otherwise I have done a basic inspection of the lighting circuit, and all I can think of to buff up is perhaps some added heat shrink around the fog light connectors.
I might just print a summary of the story on a 6x8 piece of vinyl and tie it to the car and leave it infront of the dealer until they replace it. I did that once when a private shop dropped my Suburban off their hoist and bent a tie rod then tried to tell me i "drove it in like that" (without the ability to turn left)... It took about 3 hours for them to fix it.
fastblackmerc, pm sent but as this is my daily and only car having no LCM at all for long enough to ship it internationally twice is a last resort... :(
I thought I would update this issue and how Ford Canada has dealt with it...
Over 10 months since I was issued the recall letter, three visits to two different Ford dealers (Cam Clark Ford in North Vancouver and Coastal Ford in Burnaby - no help at all) and one email to Ford Canada Corporate, the response is clear: go kick a rock. I also tweeted @ all of Ford's customer service reps in Canada (on their company twitters, not personal) and got no responses.
They have updated the arrival time of the new LCM's from 3rd quarter 2016 to 1st quarter 2017, so over a year to come out with a fix. And in the meantime, despite demonstrable failure of my LCM they won't fix it with one of the soon-to-be-obsolete versions they currently have access to (even though they will be worthless in 3 months?)
However, it is getting fixed next week. How? Where? DEIHL FORD DEALERSHIP IN BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON. I finally had the idea that perhaps I could cut all this out by driving to the USA, and called Deihl Ford in Bellingham. The service dept there had no issues ordering in the LCM right away, and will call me to schedule a time as soon as it arrives.
So a huge, heartfelt F YOU to Ford Canada and a humungous thanks to Ford USA and Deihl Ford in Bellingham, Washington. I will drive there for future service.
Reason I am posting this is so that anyone else with a Marauder in Canada can at least know that there is a different program/protocol/treatment happening here in Canada. And when you point it out to them... they don't care. However the Ford dealers in the US seem to have no problem working on and honoring our Canadian cars and their recalls.
(PS- RocsMerc - yes, they are the daytime running lights. After dealing with this for 8 months, I can honestly now say that in addition to the tails/fogs/parking lamps dying, there is a noticeable dimming of the headlights when the LCM fails too... to exactly the same brightness as when the lights are put in the OFF position. Also - just a note - this is the only car I have ever owned in which the Daytime Running Lights do not turn off when the parking brake is applied - annoying when dining at a viewpoint. I am curious if I will have daytime running lights at all after having the car fixed in America).
