My 2003 Marauder seems to be exhibiting this exact issue (see link) and while I searched and found a similar thread several folks claimed very different solutions.

Notably: COPS, EGR, DPFE, and MAF sensor, etc.

I was wondering if one of our members has access to the International Automotive Technicians Network? (iATN)

If so can you tell me or post back what it says for this link:

I'm sure it's the same for the 2003 Marauder.

I use IDENTIFIX and Snap On Shopkey. Give me your DTC's and I will give you the likeliest causes and most common fixed. DPFE sensors are a common replacement at my shop but mostly on Expedition and F150 only.

BAD MERC thanks for your reply but unfortunately I have NO DTC's that is what is so perplexing to me. I put an OBD II scan tool on it even without a CEL being on and there are NO pending codes either.

As far as RubberCtyRauder's concern, I'm aware we are the 4V engine vs 2V in the CVPI but I thought the description in the link I provided was so spot on that the answer would be the same.

I had the same issue you have and it turned out to be my COPs.

no CEL, I was right. I have a 2v marquis that exhibited the symptoms described in the link, turned out to be a bad COP. The typical auto scanners cannot detect the faulty cop, unless it's completely dead and not firing.... Check COPs dealer with a rotunda scanner can pinpoint the fault almost immediately, at a cost of course.

Consensus done? Your going to throw parts at it because two guys answers? There is a very good chance that they are correct. Common problem. Also a chance that's what fixed theirs and not so much on yours..

I hope it works for you. But throwing parts at something can be a costly mistake.

All done. Car runs fine again. The answer was a bad coil.

Not too impressed with our OBD II system since if you can feel it bouncing you around it should have set a code and the CEL light should have been on. IMHO

Penny for your thoughts, I'm a happy camper! :D

Got them at RockAuto with a discount code from our site.
