My 04 Marauder was making a suspicious noise and was getting hot. So I replaced the water pump. And my question is do you think its the thermostat? Because when I touch all of the other houses they are hot with the exception of the bottom hose. The bottom hose is cold. Also is it a safety feature for your car to shut down once it approaching the hotter area of the temperature gauge?

Sounds like you have air in the system..These motors have a "burp" procedure to remove air, as an air pocket will prevent water from circulating

Thanks for that suggestion. I'm just concerned as to why it was getting hot before I did anything to the coolant system. And now it almost overheated. And the Bottom radiator hose is completely cold but the top radiator hose is extremely hot

it could be t stat..don't buy a parts store t stat..buy a ford motorcraft one. They are specific and some brands do not duplicate it well. do a google search and the part number from the forum should pop up in one of the posts.

if the water pump was bad and the noise is now gone, then you opened up the system and have air in it and its not circulating..is the noise gone? it was possibly getting hot if the waterpump failed, but if you did not burp it, then you now have air in it,

Good point. The noise is gone. I guess I will change the thermostat while I'm at it and burp the system properly. Thanks a lot I really do love this car.

Is the thermostat normally $40.00??
I've never spent more than ten on one for my 95 Gt.

Different motor. Nothing really inexpensive on a modular motor. Where did you get that price ?

I don't know what they cost myself. Dealer is always high. Try rock auto. Com and tascsparts.com if you can wait for part. If you have the part number from the parts guy then try amazon search

Thank you for posting this. After reading so much about this issue, this is a great explanation of procedure to fix this issue.

You ROCK!

Mine would stop putting heat out the vents after 5 minutes of driving, but only when stopped at a red light

I crimped the lower overflow bottle hose, pulled the COT plug and filled it when the car was nosed up a large inclined driveway

Trying to just fill the overflow, which is lower than COT, would result in a overfilled overflow and a dry upper tube

Glad you got it cooled down, scary when they get that hot!!
