Am getting ready to put the cover on the Marauder for a while and also put the battery tender on the battery. Was thinking about leaving the battery in the car, hooking the tender up to the battery, closing the hood and putting the cover on the car.
Has anyone tried this?
Would there be any issues/concerns of safety?

I do it with plenty of cars.
None of them have blown up yet.

Since my Marauder has retired from DD duty I always leave it on the tender. No problems after 2+ years.

Why not just disconnect the battery terminals. Are there any disadvantages to just disconcerting the battery ?

The plates inside the battery break down over time. Inactivity, ie discharging over time speeds along the process. It's best to keep it on a trickle charger.

do that every year for a decade.
run the tender cord to back of hood, between the fender/door out under the cover to a power source.
I take all of my batteries out and trickle charge them on concrete.
I also set the charger as far away from any combustibles as possible, in the unlikely event it fails and causes a fire.

I just run the extension cord thru the rubber flap on the inner fender. Connects to the permanently installed connector.

depending on storage location (does it get below 32 etc) batteries should never be let to freeze..it will kill it. My batteries get pulled and into the basement onto a workbench. I was told concrete isn't good for them to sit on..but I don't know if that is true.

I always thought that was a no-no......... until I read this:

supposedly concrete will connect the cells and kill the battery over time. Wood as well. Never did it, don't know.
Letting it freeze, yah, that's a killer.

as I said, I didn't know, but freezing a battery is still a nono

I do that all the time. As long as water can't come in contact with the battery tender, you are good to go. Don't forget the gas stabilizer and fresh anti-freeze.

I have these as well, I use Battery Tender PN: 022-0197 for the Marauder and PN: 022-0186G-DL-WH for my trailer batteries which I pull and leave in the garage.

I put a lighter plug on mine with an extra 5 feet of cord and plug it into the accessory port in the armrest. Then I just close it in the door. The wire is thin enough that it doesn't hurt anything. I keep the tender on it a lot. I use the car every couple of weeks but it's just short trips most of the time. Those are as bad as leaving it sitting.
