View Full Version : Gas Tank and Winter Storage Level?

Everyone
I've seen recommendations stating that, for a car in storage for the winter, a tank should be full (no moisture etc) and also that a tank should be at ~1/4 full (because of octane degradation and to raise the octane with the first fill up in spring).
Hagerty recommends a full tank but I understand that octane degrades.
What is the concensus here?
I'll only be storing until ~March/April.
Thanks!

I top off the tank and use stabilizer in link. Been doing this for years no issues. Putting mine down tomorrow till April using this method. See you in the spring. Happy Thanksgiving

Yo, Jim!
Thanks for the reply.
This is for the S/C'd car so I'm concerned about octane degradation.

Sea Foam stabilizes gas as well. I fill up to the brim and add it.

I just asked a reputable local car guy. He said Sta-Bil, fill it, and drive it 10 plus min to get the tank mixed and somestabile in the lines.
Sounded reasonable to me.
I am doing this today ;)
Happy Thanksgiving to all, And to all a good night!

This ^ is what I've done the past two winters.
Early this year, I read (I thought here) that it might not be the best idea because of the decrease in octane and that a partial tank is better as it allows for an immediate fill up and increased octane rather than babying the car down to a half tank.
I know that there were some who thought "Not another storage question".
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
