I noticed a puddle on the driveway. Smell check says Mercon V. I got under the car and see Mercon V dripping off the lower rear mount bolt of the power steering pump. When I look closer I see what appears to be a weep hole near the back of the pump, close to the dripping bolt. The weep hole is full of bright red Mercon V.
My Suburban P/S pump did not have a weep hole. Am I correct to assume that if my P/S pump is leaking from the weep hole that it's time to replace it? It only has 165k miles on it.... :depress:

I know it's frowned on, I normally frown on it.. But my full size bronco had a leak at the power steering box.. Before I rebuilt it, I thought I'd throw some of this in it.. Hasn't leaked a drop since.. Research it, it's 'snake oil', but it's the real deal. If you have to replace the pump, this might get you through a while first.

Our 300A did that at 230K miles. But only when the outside temp got below 40*. The pump is bad. Got a new one, swapped the pulleys and back on the road. Takes a special tool to remove the pulley. It's easier to remove the pump with the pulley off, but not impossible. Relatively easy fix.

Most FLAPS will rent you the tool.
