I bought a dual A-Pillar mount, Autometer oil temp gauge, and Autometer water temp gauge for my MM. I am trying to find a location to install the water sending unit but I see there are two OEM sending units on our 4.6L-4V's, one on each side.

My concern is if I install a "Y" pipe adapter to install the Autometer sending unit next to one of the OEM sending units it will introduce temperature differences that may cause problems between the two OEM sending unit readings.

Has anyone found an alternate location?

Thanks!

Hi,

I've been mulling around the idea of adding idiot lights to the car so have been thinking about ports and wire runs.

I identified one spot for a temp sender which is down on the side of the block just below the freeze out plugs. It is 3/8" npt. I believe the temp reading would probably be a little low at that point. I think this would normally be a block drain if it were a boat engine. I haven't seen a 4.6 in a boat yet.

An alternative to that spot might be to incorporate a sender into Dennis's cooling mod. I haven't alked to him about that yet but the idea is growing on me. I particularly like it since that would give a reading from a known problem area.

Also I don't believe a "T" fitting which incorporates an extra sender would screw up the temp reading but you could insulate it and avoid even the possibility of a couple of degree drop from the heat sink effect of the brass "T". I think it would be overkill. Your sender would only be reading one side of the block but that should be ok. You still have the dash guage. I don't know how that gets it's readings as my service manual hasn't arrived yet.

Good Luck
Jay
