The heating elements will fail with age, miles, heavy driver etc.. My drivers element died about a year after getting the car. Ford still sells the elements or you can get a Dorman kit instead

Normal PD ?
Normal Problem Determination.
Here I'll help you out........................
See if there is power at the connector under the seat. If there is power then the heating element may be bad. If there is no power then check if there is power to the switch and going to the seat. If there is no power to the switch then check the fuses / relays, if there is no power on the other side of the switch then the switch is suspect.

My driver's seat doesn't seem to be putting out any heat either. I had it to a shop today and they pulled the seat.
The verdict was:"The switch and seat module are working correctly. The seat element checks within specs but is not putting out much heat". Both sides were checked with a heat gun and were about 80 degrees F. When I sit in the passenger seat, heat is much more noticeable. There are elements in both the seat bottom and back, correct? A couple of years ago I did have an upholstery repair on the driver's seat to fix where it tears around the buckle insert.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

Just to chime in because I am curious about this also, my heated seats went about a year ago. The button still lights up when pressed but no heat present I'm sure the dealership has a hefty price tag for this one. What are our options ?

Heating elements go bad, if you have low heat, I would suspect the element itself, not turning on is a completely different issue.
That said, I bought a stack of those elements from a members estate sale a couple years back.

Not to derail this thread, but has anyone experienced overheating from their heated seats? Like almost burning your butt hot?
What would be the culprit here?

My DS heat doesn't work as well as it did when new. As stated previously the heating elements age with use and become less efficient / effective over time and use. This summer I'm going to try and retrofit aftermarket carbon fiber pads into the front seats and add them to the back seat(s). Looking for a set that has rectangular switches as I don't like the round ones. Will also look at adding a heated pad to the center position of the rear seat with the switch in the back of the center console.

Aftermarket ones are cheap enough and probably better made.

Cheaper? Of course. Better made? That is really hard to know without volunteering to be a crash test dummy. Overall, my experience has been OEM parts are more likely to be quality as Ford had to qualify and warranty them. And the original design may be what you can buy today from the original vendor.
No doubt their are exceptions. For something that is upholstered into an expensive leather seat the only consideration should be quality. Now I'm wondering if it was wise to re-use the original heating elements when I reupholstered my front seats. They still work, fingers crossed.

Better and cheaper than these?

Old threads indicate some differences of opinion on whether there is heat in the seat back. This diagram indicates there is an element there also. I definitely feel heat in both areas on the passenger seat but nothing much on the driver's seat although my tech says everything checks out.

Truth is, a couple of other members were there before me, they passed on seat covers, wheels, dash trim, instrument clusters.....

I was there before you. Bought long dash trim and made profit, bought tips and made profit , bought cam covers and powder coated ford blue and sold my old ones. I remember seeing the heating elements and rims but not enough money at the time to grab a bunch of stuff. It was early in my marauder days so dud t know as much

I bet the OEM elements are not carbon fiber.

Who has aftermarket elements with carbon fiber in them?

Now that the chilly weather is upon us it's time to use bun warmers again. Both mine turn on and 2 seconds later, turn off. The seat switch lights up and turns off immediately. No warmth. I don't know if these use an auto resetting circuit breaker but it's time to dig in and find out because ice cold leather sucks!

I once had an issue with the air bag light, drivers power seat and heat not working. Unplugged connector and plugged it back in. Wouldn’t hurt to try. :dunno:

This is a common problem with older seat heating elements. As they get older the resistance gets higher and the module shuts them off. Sometimes as mentioned it is just a bad connection. On my Suburban that module under the drivers seat controls a ton of features including the pedal adjustments, so anything that isn't working may affect the seats from being heated.
