Hey has anyone put MSD Coil packs and E3 Spark plugs in there Mercury Marauder. I bought both to put on my car. Going to do it all one shot deal. Also Kooks headers and X-pipe with high flow cats and Borla Pro-XS mufflers getting the tailpipes pipes custom done. I ran MSD Coil packs on my Ford Econoline E-250 panel van. And it is still running game the. And it has been a long time. Just wondering if then with E3 plug will give it some pep. I already have everything. So this week it all goes in my 10k original miles 04 DTR Mercury Marauder.

E 3 plugs will do nothing. Most here like NGK. If you want pep, add a tune or 4.10 gears plus your original coil packs are probably just fine being low miles.

Just curious do you have issues with any of your coils? Most here just run OEM motorcraft.
Unless there is a need for colder or hotter plugs you don't "gain" anything by installing different plugs.
"High Performance" coils also will not gain any power.

NGK v-power are the best imho, I've ran them in all my buicks and never had a failure with them. 30 psi and 24 degrees of timing on stock ignition, zero issues

Started using them on all the equipment at work and we got to the point we never had to change plugs ever again.

Bosch and champion do not hold up compared to ngk

I've heard good things about E3 plugs a long time ago, never thought of using them cause a basic Ngk v power performs

My car runs fine. 04 DTR Mercury Marauder with 10k original miles. I bought everything the other day. Going to take it. To my boys shop. And get it all installed Tuesday or Wednesday depending if they can get me in. There earlier the better. I have these Coils on my now Father's E-250 van. And factory Motorcraft plug. And it made a little difference. In MPG and crisper throttle response. That I felt every time I took her out. Not saying it made more HP. But I felt the difference. As for a tune in just put my computer back to stock this morning. Going for NYS inspect. Iam going to get a SCT tuner for it. Once I put ever all the Kooks headers and X-pipe with high flow cats and Borla Pro-XS mufflers. And the mentioned MSD Coil packs with the E3 plugs. Then put the SCT tune. Then go to Real Speed in Long Island NY. And put it on the dyno. Then saving up my money for a Procharger Supercharger. And keep him fresh and ready. For all these Mopars. That think there the **** over here.

And you don't need to keep telling us an "04 DTR mercury marauder with 10K original miles" in every post. Put that in your signature if you wish. This is a marauder forum, we know the cars. SCT canned tunes are not worth the money, if you wish to spend your money there, go ahead, but there are better choices

Go with the NGK plugs. As for the power packs... I tried several different brands.. and they all failed! It was a very expensive learning curve.
The Ford units are like the US Marine Corp... always there when you need them. Stay with the Ford Power Packs.

Is there a certain mileage that the coil on plug deal the MMs have need to be replaced???Just for maintenance...Ofcourse they need to be replaced if they fail...Not the spark plugs, which are replaced by some on a regular basis...
I'm getting ready to replace my plugs...Nearing 100K...Was wondering if I should change the coil on plug also....A lot more money...No problems as of now...

I have 250k miles on my stock coils.

I would just replace them only when needed.

Ford OEM (stock) ignition coils can and do fail. Nothing wrong with using Motorcraft replacements. If price is a consideration, Accel and MSD make excellent alternatives, and may cost less

What kind of improvements did you see using NGK or are they more reliable or last longer?

I was under the impression that copper core spark plugs were preferred in boosted applications?

IMO alot of people feel that there cars run as good if not better with copper, it's great at making a good spark. I use NGK or Autolite copper, I change them every year at the same time I check the plug boots and make sure there are no issues with the cylinder head threads. I enjoy doing it and my CV runs great.
