It's 13MAY04 @ 0440 in Burleson, Texas at the last eastbound traffic light on 174 before the I-35W entrance. He's in a red 911 SC with a Targa top (unsure of the year but I'd guess mid 80's). We make eye contact during the red light and his face expresses a tacit understanding that he will be leaving this black barge in the dust. I idle quietly so the Kooks don't show my hand.
Light goes green- the red mist flows and he never gets closer than the rear door. I shut it off at 100 and let him slink off. Bad driver? Missed shift? Car out of tune? Who cares? Not me. Sweet! :coolman:

Hee-hee... that's part of why we bought a Marauder!

Porsche made the 911SC from 1978 to 1983, but the later 911 Carreras look almost identical... you'd have to be goofy to know the differences.

Anyhow, 911SC's had 185hp... but they only weigh 2700-2800 lbs. Our's is quick enough, but I think it would need tail wind to do any better than real-high 14s. The non-power steering is awesome... frankly equal to anything on the road today. The stock brakes are autobahn bred. The shifter is long & balky, not unlike what you might find in a late '70s 1-ton truck... but if you get the rythmm it will move right along.

It's a great car on twisty roads, but the driver should know better than to pick street fights!

Outside of the infant car seat, our MM is bone-stock. Our 911 runs 100%. I think a race between them would be a toss-up, so with some goodies I can see why he never got to your front door!

Thanks for the smile. BTW, we seem to drive the MM more than the SC!

Nice kill.

I keep any street racing under 60mph unless the posted limit is higher.

All street racing accidents I am aware of have occurred at 90mph+ speeds.

Did you belch after feasting?
Now, like the panther, sleep a few hours before the hunger returns.

I believe it was the prophet Clint Eastwood who said, "A man's gotta know his limitations." I believe it would have been a very different post if the road had curved... :shake:

Thanks for the info. on the 911SC, I thought I might get a lot of :censor: flames that would have questioned my honesty but having an expert opinion on the likelyhood of the event is quite validating

Yeah, I know. You're absolutely right. Too many variables that I simply didn't control...I won't make excuses like "the road was empty", "I haven't driven the car since last Saturday and needed a fix" or "I hardly ever do that"...

I will simply confess the truth... My inner child got the best of me for about 16 seconds. For that moment in time, I was Charles Whitman not Walt Whitman.

Curves...No problem if you're young and stupid! I used to race BMW's all the way to the beach in Marin years ago. I had a GTO. The muscle cars do great in turns if you know how to 'steer' with the rear end like an old moonshiner driver! Let that rear end 'swing' a little to make your corner!

I would not do it now!

Good job partner!

On a similar note, yesterday an old man was idling his 04 Cobra Mustang when I was at a red light.

It sound like he did not know what he was doing so I begin to laugh at him via my rear-view mirrow. Indeed he saw me laughing and as a result he became angry and pull next to me talking CRAP about what he would do to me.

Well when the light turn green, it was ALL 04 MM from start to finish and he wasn't even close on my bumper. :nono: I can honestly say the 4.10 gear & the super chip tuned by Lidio @ Alternative Performance Auto made an *** out of him for a few seconds.

Like you said, "Bad driver? Missed shift? Car out of tune? Who cares? Not me".

Dan, my pleasure. I figured the story wasn't BS and more folks would enjoy your fun if they knew it was true.

Btw, we... ahem... field tested our 911SC against a 2001 Boxster 5-speed (Not a Boxter S) and it was a toss up. My wife was driving the Boxster and I was driving our car. She got a jump at the first light, and I couldn't catch up. That was pretty funny.

I got the jump at the second light (now that I knew we were rac...uh, field testing) and she couldn't catch up to the old car while driving the new one.

Again, the "base" Boxster is an amazing car in the twisties, but it's not Porsche's best drag car.

Carry on...

Greg

   - Hey it's a great title that means nothing like "Best Surfer in Iowa", "Oklahoma Prom Queen" or "Best Smile in England".

Actually we are a Marauder-infested area. I know of:
2 in Burleson.
2 in Joshua (including me).
1 in Godley.
They appear stock and don't play on the board....
