    Engine Coolant Temperature

So I'm having a bit of an odd issue in my opinion. It doesn't matter whether I start my car and let it run for 20 minutes before I leave or just start it up and leave. It takes about 8 miles of driving before the engine temperature comes up. Then, when I turn my heat on the temperature almost immediately drops back down to cold before slowly Rising back to normal. Then the oddest part... shutting the engine off long enough to fuel causes it to go back to cold as well. I would love to say it's just a sensor issue but when the temperature is reading cold I have no heat so it has to be the coolant temperature. What is happening here? Bad thermostat?

Your thermostat is stuck open. Your coolant is flowing through the radiator too much releasing all the heat gained from the engine.

That's kind of what I was thinking too. Thanks.

Any recommendations on what thermostat to get? As far as temperature goes...?

Is this for a marauder? T stat not same for a MGM and a 180 temp will need a change in the tune to tell fan to come on earlier than the 195 stock stat.

Napa 109 will not fit 01 MGM..a 180 tstat does zero good unless the pcm has been told to turn fan on at a lower temp.

This is my go to tstat for DOHC engines tune or no tune.

I think your referencing a tune for colder plugs and tstat to run more base timing.

Just put one on a Mach1... Stock tune... Temps are fine...

    ,

Yes, you are right in my meaning. But he has a 2v motor, not a marauder, so different tstat

Yes. I'm currently driving a Grand Marquis. I was in desperate need of a car and while I wanted a Marauder I couldn't find one in decent shape fast enough. Ended up with a decent mileage 1 owner Marquis. A Marauder is on my wish list and will be in my garage soon. In the mean time I'm here getting good info and tips for when I do get it. Also, since the cars are built on the same Panther platform I can get some good info here for my MGM.
