I read there is a unit on the market that is plug and play with the stock steering wheel controls.
Does anyone know if this is true?
I've never had luck with adapters.

Haven't experienced any firsthand. However some members have mentioned at least one option in this thread:

This is the one referenced:

I've seen the units on eBay that have steering wheel controls, but I have no experience connecting them or if they even work.
I'm using the PAC-Audio unit, specific to the Pioneer AVIC x940bt headunit.

Same here. Volume function works correct but Mode does skip and Next does mute. lol No matter how many times I tried to reprogram it, that's just what it did and it never bothered me.
Link to Pac's website, the module will depend on the brand HU you use.

same from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/S160-Andorid...p2047675.l2557 (although sold out).
haven't tried it but very tempted. looks like it is supposed to fit the factory opening without having a trim kit. Steering wheel controls are supposed to work, so I assume you don't need the adapter. also has somewhat of a factory look, which is nice.
just get an escape audiophile unit

No steering wheel support. They do have another model that has a remote control.
Can't beat it for the price.

Whatever I bought to work with my Pioneer Navi works perfectly for years now. I suppose I could find out what it is if needed.
The adapter units aren't bad but man do they take up space. I personally never run them because I use a remote control or just touch the screen on the aftermarket double din. What are you trying to accomplish? Do you just want an updated double din for the car with steering wheel controls? Do you want a factory radio that works with aftermarket amplifiers/etc? We have the technology we can figure this out. I have yet to see an aftermarket single or double din radio that has steering wheel control built in plug and play.

I had issues with my adapter too. It don't remember the brand but it is currently behind the dash....unplugged.
If I were going to try again I would go with an i-datalink adapter. I used one to upgrade the radio in my 2013 F150 and it works perfectly. The one for the F150 does a lot more than steering wheel controls and is a model RR. I believe that we would need model SW for the Marauder.

I just picked one up from my wife's Subaru. Hopefully it works as well as the RR does.
