I hate to say it, but the J Geils Band will probably never get their due respect in the rock and roll world. I've heard people describe them as "just a bar band" but that's baloney. That band was a g**damn wall of sound and killed it EVERY TIME they played live. They are in my top-10 on the all-time "wish I'd seen them" list...sometime between '77 and '81 would have been the best.
Not to mention Geils himself was a great guitarist - not overdoing it, just playing right where he needed to. And impeccable tone on top of it.
