Front LCA Replacement - Forward Bushing Search

For anyone on here that has recently replaced or is planning on replacing the LCA on the front suspension I need one of the front bushings. I would prefer that the bushing be left in the control arm but cut off all of the old arm except the "ear" the bushing is installed in. I would like one off a stamped steel unit and one off of an aluminum unit if possible.

The reason behind this is I contacted Rare Parts to see if they had it and they do not and noted it was not a service part offered by Ford (we all know this). They asked if I could provide dimensions and I offered to just send them the bushing in the ear of the control arm. Basically it sounds like they have all kinds of bushings and want to see if this matches up with something they already have. I do not mind putt forth some effort on this as I think it makes sense versus the high price of having to buy an entire control arm and the vendors of those control arms are getting this bushing from somewhere.

If and when crownvic.net comes back online I will post this up on there as well. - Posted there and their site is back up and pretty decent.

PM me if you have one and I will get you the address to send it to. - No longer need one as I found a replacement bushing. See Post #18.

Hey, if $$$ is tight, my suggestion is to get the cheapest LCA from Rock Auto you can.

$80 bucks: still better than pressing/cutting out a 15 year old bushing then jamming it back into an old control arm ...I put one if these on a MGM works perfectly.

Money is not tight and I have access to a 20 ton press so it works for me. I just figure for the cost of the FoMoCo ball joint and access to a quality bushing why buy the whole control arm? That and I want to powder coat the LCA's I have.

I feel the same way. Way replace what isn’t broke? So much waste in this world anymore. When I was a teen we rebuilt starters, alternators, calipers, and whatever else we could! Money was tight as I recall. Either the parts companies got greedy or people got lazy as rebuilding seems to be a thing of the past.

And to think back then we didn’t have YouTube to make us an overnight know it all..

I believe Ford recommends replacing the whole assembly for an aluminum control arm..why risk it?

Modulus of E is a lot lower for aluminum vs steel --could be why they don't recommend it. you might weaken/start a crack in the aluminum arm during the pressing.

So I am a mechanical engineer and have a decent grasp on metals, fatigue, elasticity, etc. They obviously do it once on the aluminum LCA when it is new so it just might work again.

Again, what I am asking for is the bushings with the “ear” left around it. This will allow them to determine if the bushings are the same or different. If they are the same then someone is still making quite a few of them and it may be possible to get them.

More over if a company offers a replacement it’s up to the individual to determine if they want to try pressing it out and a new one back in. If that bothers a person then buy the whole LCA and move on.

You can recycle the old aluminum & steel.

And buy a stick of gum. Not what I would call any kind of pay back but I see your point.

Actually I got $10 bucks for mine at the recycler.

    That's a lot of gum

Ha ha ha!!! Nice Seinfeld reference. It’s just not worth my time, gas, or miles on my truck to take it to the recycler for $10 where I live.

So you are looking for a bushing with the shell still attached? A lot of times the shell gets mangled when pressing out the complete bushing.
Energy suspension sells bushings without shells so usually people burn out their bushings and leave the shells in the arm for this reason.

You could get an arm at a junkyard and bring it home and try and press it out?

What I want is the bushing still pressed into the LCA but I only want the portion of the LCA that has the bushing in it i.e. that “ear” cut off the rest of the LCA.

Being that this is going nowhere I may just see if I can get an LCA out of a salvage yard.

So can someone check me here, is this really the IFS lower control arm forward bushing??

    https://partsonline.mevotech.com/details/MS40401

I emailed MevoTech and asked if "Front Lower Forward Arm to Frame" means it is the bushing for the front suspension, lower control arm, forward bushing. If I get a response I will post back. Hoping this is the real deal so I can move forward with tearing down my LCA's and getting them powder coated.

I would avoid Mevotech if possible. Not the best quality parts.
