    How to install transmission cooler

    Hey guys,

I recently purchased an auxiliary transmission cooler to add to my Marauder. I was doing some research on how to install it and am conflicted. I read that some here on the forums install it inline with the factory cooler. But then read an article that said this can cause build up pressure and to just bypass the the factory cooler. I have a 3500 stall and want to keep things cool. What do you suggest?

Always install an aux cooler inline with the factory cooler. The aux cooler should be downstream of the factory cooler, as the factory cooler has a thermostatic bypass to allow the fluid to warm up properly when cold.

Ignore the bad advice you got from "an article". If an aux cooler increases line pressure it's either a crap design or the tubing is undersized for the application.

Go with the largest stack plate design and dont waste a penny on a old tube and fin cooler. Usually 36000 gvwr or larger.

Go from the trans to the radiator, then the extra cooler back to the transmission.

Please, which of the lines coming from the trans is the up-stream line? I think I may have my external cooler mis-plumbed. Thanks.

Definitely install in series after the OEM cooler. I've had mine for over 80K with no problems.

Just be carefull that if there is any reduction in airflow over rad it doesn't increase coolant temps.

I'm running a Reisch 170 stat with a MartyO tune modified to Reisch's specs. Consistent temps at 172 as reported by my Scangauge.
