Thumbs up The Ford Pushrod Returns With The New Godzilla 7.3L OHV Big-Block

"It’s been rumored/leaked for a while now that Ford has been working on a new large-displacement, overhead-valve, pushrod engine under the code name “Godzilla.” Now, Ford has confirmed the new engine in the announcement of the 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty line of pickup trucks. “An all-new Ford-designed and Ford-built 7.3-liter V8 joins the standard 6.2-liter V8 in Super Duty’s gas engine stable,” the release says. The new 7.3-liter will be considered an upgrade from the base 6.2-liter gas engine, but won’t be the premium powerplant option, which is still the 6.7-liter PowerStroke diesel engine.”

    Fixed. Special Thanks to NXSBOB.

At least changing the oil filter will be easy and won't make a mess.

I bet this will find its way into the Raptor. I’m excited to see the power numbers and potential.

No, this won't be a smogged down 385 series 460 V8 with terrible cylinder heads.
    Just extrapolating from FORD's current 6.2L V8 output of 385 HP/430 TRQ.....puts it at 453 HP/506 TRQ.

Imagine this under the hood of a Marauder.....

After many years of arguing how superior the overhead cam engines were in the Ford modular series versus the pushrod LS series now what are we supposed to do? This new one just looks like an overgrown LS. Will this make it any less of a heresy to put an LS into a Ford car?

Have to admit I also wonder why the move back to pushrods?

Overhead cam engines are superior*...that's why FORD's 5.0 Coyote makes more HP than a 6.2L Chevy LS.

This new one just looks like an overgrown LS.

    It sure does!
With the narrow cylinder heads and valve covers it should fit in a LOT of applications.
Looking forward to lots of 'Godzilla' swaps and less LS swaps!

Will this make it any less of a heresy to put an LS into a Ford car? ....NO!

It's not a matter of OHC vs. OHV....its a matter of FORD vs. Chevy!....
    * BUT....in a truck, a less complex, lower operating rpm, good 'ole BIG cubic inch pushrod engine makes more sense to me too.

Where I work we are doing the cylinder deactivation valves for this engine, and maybe some other valves as well. I new about it before the release with is cool. I would like to see it in the Raptor or heck put it in the Mustang as a drag pack option...old school there.
