    Clock Spring or Switches issue?

My cruise control hasn't worked for a while now and the horn is intermittent. To me that points to the clock spring. This morning I was cleaning the switches on the steering wheel when i pressed the on/off cruise button (the switches on the lower left of the steering wheel) the horn occasionally would sound. That seems odd. I have already purchased a new clock spring so I will install that but maybe its just the switches? Anyone experience that before?

Also, anyone have an extra very nice set of switches. I actually have an extra NOS steering wheel in the box that was never opened until I purchased it. It sat on a shelf so long the plastic wrapper actually reacted with the rubber on the switches so they look worse than what's on my car now. (there's a lesson for those buying boxed NOS parts "never opened"—who knows what condition the parts are in).

The horn blowing when pressing the switches in the corner was discovered back in 2002

    OK, so:

Is that just an abnormality that doesn't affect anything else or was it discovered it was an issue that affected something else?

Found this in the archives, so it does look like it could be the reason my horn doesn't work nor my cruise control. Yet is still could be the clock spring as well.
