I just put Continental Crosscontact 285/50/18 on my stock rims. they look great, can't tell the difference except for the fact they hook much better than the stock tires did.

Sorry to dust off this old thread, but after searching for an hour this is the info I need. I have the OEM size 235-50–18 Nittos on the front, and bald Nitto 265-50-18’s on the back (4.32% ratio).

—> So, I can get Nitto 255-55-18’s for the back, but that’s going to take the front to back ratio up to 6.5%. Is that going to confuse the traction control?

295-45-18 rear is tempting, and almost exactly the same ratio front to back as my 265-50-18’s (1.2” difference instead of 1.18”), but a bit too wide for me I think, and I believe some people have reported a few issues with them.

Thanks as always for your feedback.

P.S. I’d like to go with the 3/4” wider 255-45-18’s next time on the front, but with 255-55 rears I’d have a 7.3% difference front to back, which would probably give TC issues.

People have run the 255-55 without issue with stock front size, if you plan on the 255-45 front at some point, I might not recommend 255-55. Plenty here have 295-45 rears on stock rims, just make sure you choose a sidewall rating same as stock.

Outstanding, thanks for the info. These will be 6/10ths of an inch taller than the 265-50’s if I recall correctly, and 4/10ths narrower, but also 4/10’s taller and wider than OEM.

WRT the size differential and traction control I’ve never seen anything from Ford on that, just s 3-6% range mentioned here, so that 6.5% front to back should be OK.

I've never run the 255-55 rear size. Other members have when choice was even more limited than today. Every car is different and tolerances in mfg may or may not effect it. There is no guarantee it won't effect it.

Thanks, appreciate the info. Shame the 265-50’s are no longer made, as that was the perfect solution. In looking at a tire size calculator these 255’s are .39” wider and .42” taller than OEM, and have a 1.32” larger circumference, so when the speedo shows you doing 65 you’re really doing 66.

To be sure I might just default back to the OEM tires, but could get these now for a good price. I’ll check it out, thanks again.

BTW, looking at their specs, 295-45 might be the perfect solution as they’re so close to OEM in everything but width. (I’m seeing a 4.4% front to back difference to OEM fronts, 1.2” taller vs. 1.36”) I was only thinking there might be fitment issues as they’re 2” wider than OEM and 1.2” wider than my 265-50’s. I would get Nittos if available so the sidewall rating shouldn’t be a problem.

WRT the 255-45 fronts, are there any rubbing issues with those while turning? I’m seeing they’re .22” lower but .80” wider. With the 295 rears those would look good in front next time around.

I have the KDS, Nitto Motivo's, Nitto G2, and General on for panthers.

The G2 are hard and loud... Unreasonably so, compared to all others and not befitting our big sedans. Not a fan at all. Have been contemplating changing out tires, and putting the G2 on a car I don't drive often.
