    Dang radio

My dang radio (stock) started acting up last week. I thought I might escape this because it sits inside so much, but nooooooo, it's going. Radio worked for a few minutes today, then lost stations. Turn it off, wait, do it again.

Think I'll probably find something new to replace it.

    Anybody fixing these?

I think I got mine repaired at Radios United or I think they also go by Radios and More. Been working fine for some time now.

Kirk, I am also having a problem with my radio. The radio works, but doesn't receive the signal. I had the back windshield replaced (where the radio wire is), but that didn't work. The dealer states that there is a "controller" up in the headboard, that isn't made anymore!? Is that what you heard?

These cars have a history of the radio going bad. I don't know the exact cause, but what you have here may be the issue. Currently mine will work for a few minutes when I first start things up, but loses stations after a short time. I've only experienced it 3-4 times so far, but based on that experience it seems to be heat related at the moment.

There is an Audiophile (spelling?) replacement as well as other options. Haven't decided yet which way I'm going.

There is a bad solder joint somewhere in the FM receiver module.

That's what I thought, and why I though I might escape it. Oh well

Hi Kirk - Just an update. Took it to an audio/radio place. They said that the radio (FM/AM receiver) is bad and wanted to replace it. Of course, they are trying to sell a fancy radio - with all the bells & whistles. Trying to charge U$1k! Do the Car Dealers still replace radios for the Marauder? I am going to check. I suppose that a used radio, out of an old Crown Vic would work, don't you think?

I would think that any used radio like it WILL have the problem eventually.

I assume that the Audiophile unit doesn't have this problem? Somebody chime in.

I looked at Crutchfield options and the stuff I like is $400-$600, too much for me right now.

I used mine tonight. It worked for about 10 minutes before it quit. Gotta believe that somebody with way more knowledge and talent than me could fix that solder joint.

I have multiple MMs. The OEM radio always goes bad. They lose the FM signal. So I switched out the OEM radio for an 05-07 Escape Audiophile unit. The sound is better and the steering wheel controls still work. Plug-n-play. The Audiophile units are still working perfectly to this day. Go to your local yard, grab one, switch it out and call it a day. Save the time and money for engine upgrades and new tires.

The radio from a vic will not power the factory sub, unless you find a 1 in a million 03-05 vic/grand marq with a factory sub.

You're better off doing the mentioned audiophile escape headunit upgrade. Stop going to shops and read what the people on this forum are talking about, you already got taken for a ride with putting that new rear glass in.

I remember comments on here about a shop in NY that has a good track record of repairing the OEM radios...
