Re: Best Engine Oil / Advice Requested

One of my MMs is naturally aspirated and is approaching 150,000 miles. I baby her but the previous owner didn't. I want to prolong the life of the engine as much as possible. I have been using Castrol GTX and changing it every 3 months or 3,000 miles. Does anyone use anything that may be better or best quality? Castrol Edge? Mobil One? Pennzoil? Any one have any recommendations? What is everyone's experience? Thank you in advance.

i run 5w20 and have 260k miles. All original and zero issues. I do several wot pulls daily. My 260k marauder runs better and is stronger than the other 03 with only 40k miles and our 04 marauder with just under 70k miles.

as stated you can only run motorcraft oil filters on fords all others will damage the engine

325k miles, always ran Mobil1 @ 5000 mile oil change intervals. Motorcraft FL820S filters. Uses about 1 qt between changes. Used 5W20 until about 250k, then switched to 5W30.

I think you're over thinking it a bit, I just run 5W30 M1 from walmart. This engine doesn't require any super oil change intervals or weights.

I would love to see the proof behind this, especially considering the Motorcraft filters IIRC are made by Purolator.

Its one thing to say "avoid the cardboard Fram filters" but this just sounds like fear mongering

I always use Mobil1 FULL synthetic. Since synthetic is better than conventional oil, why not just use 100% synthetic?

    Yep:

"Blend" might only be 11% synthetic, according to this :

This is one of those questions that will get a different answer from everyone. FWIW: Not a Marauder but I have used Castrol Edge 5W30 in my 2V 4.6L Grand Marquis since 50k and change every 15k miles. It turned 318k today and the only thing I have done to it is replace the timing chain guides at 243k. I would not have known they were worn if I did not do an oil sample at 240k.

5w30 Mobil 1 changed every 12 months with filter change @ 6 m or better = 500,000+ miles on motor unless something lets go which always is a possibility.

I change oil & filter twice a year - because I can & don't care about the few $$$ = super clean engine still within factory tolerances even when it reaches 200k+.
