R&R Steering rack How to put the steering shaft spline back correctly ???

    Hi,

Now that my back seems to be "back" together I am finally going to change the oil pan. One step in that process is to disconnect the steering column from the rack. It looks reasonably easy to accomplish but I want to make sure to reconnect it in exactly the same position/orientation if possible. Is the steering shaft spline keyed? Or what would be the best way to put it back ?

    Thanks,
    Jay

It only connects one way. Slip your seat belt through the steering wheel and then snap it in place so you don’t ruin the clock spring. Other than that just remove the 10MM bolt and pop the shaft off.

^^^this^^^, and hope the last guy didn’t tighten the 10mm bolt with an impact, it makes it a little more challenging to get apart.

Also, make sure nobody turns the steering wheel while you have the shaft disconnected, otherwise the clock spring can be damaged.
