My experience with Grundy / totaling out my MM

Stuffed the front and rear ends into a wall back in mid August. Pushed the rear end of the car in and knew it was a total loss.. / not repairable...

Well, since I have Grundy and it's a classic car policy, I have Philadelphia xxxxx ins as a underwriter..

Nobody seems to know who you are unless you have THE CLAIM NUMBER, I was told numerous times I did not have a policy with them when they looked me up by name and or THE POLICY NUMBER... Come to find out using a middle initial and even Sherlock Holmes couldn't solve the case, they can't find you.

That was the aggravating portion, plus the expected (swear to god) guy goes on vacation for 2 weeks during this ordeal...
I might sound like a jerk, but that seems like a tactic they would use to stall,... plus EVERY phone call HE made to me MY CELL PHONE never rang and went straight to voice mail...
Seemed fishy and I'm not exaggerating,.. was explaining to friends how I have to check my voice messages to see if he called, just to find out he called 20 minutes earlier while my phone was in my hat full blast on ringer on the counter top right next to all of us... no ring just voicemail..

Id say about 10 phone conversations at least, while they advertise 1 phone call is typically how they resolve the issue at hand..

    BUT....
Hashing through all that bs, sending my title in and getting it back with someone else's 2012 Camry information and wrong policy # attached to my name.... fn for real here folks..., they cut da check.
    so far so good.
I guess that is what really matters, no fuss or muss about the stated value, no problems setting up the lady to come over and take pictures of all the damage..
Supposedly they assessed the value of a 2004 marauder with 188?k on it dealer price st 3k,... it didn't matter because my stated value was much more... maybe that was dealer buy at auction for 3k... my car was nice so I would expect it's worth wayyy more than that..

In the past I've heard of people asking for the amount paid for the policy back too, at this point with my neck and head pain that was the least of my worries.
So I get home today check the mail and there's another check..

No questions asked $10.00 off what I just paid in full back to me for that cars policy WOW!

In a nutshell, great rates. $110.00 per year $8000.00 stated value No hassle or pushyness, very professional people I spoke to, for me just a bunch of hiccups and bumpy road to resolve this.. Thought it could have been much easier in the long run.
I do have more cars with them, I highly suggest using them, last claim with my mustang was much easier 8 years ago.., they paid for everything on it. Obviously no car rental because these are not daily drivers..

I might be able to relax now

As respects the phone issue sometimes adding them as a contact solves the issue.

Always ask for a sample policy and explanation of the "Value".

In many policies "Stated Value" is the most they will pay in a total loss and not the amount.

"Agreed Value" is usually the amount that is paid in a total loss.

I noticed that my Hagerty coverage also is through a third party (Essentia). Mustang and Marauder are both covered under the same policy, both with established 'guaranteed values', subject to review as they appreciate in value. I'm paying quite a bit more than you ($987 per year) but this is just over a third of what I was paying State Farm, with identical coverage otherwise. Thanks for sharing.

I was paying around $5k per year for full coverage, high liability limits, low deductibles for two 1000cc+ sport touring bikes, new Ranger, Marauder, Mustang and Homeowners' Policy, all with State Farm - a customer for decades. Moved to NC from Florida in 1996, homeowner's and auto stayed roughly the same, while SF had dropped underwriting motorcycles in NC for some reason during that time. I went with a 'no name' RV/motorcycle insurance carrier and it remained roughly the same. Single car accident in 2011 blew my auto insurance through the roof for a couple of years, but it never returned to where is was.

My auto insurance actually saw 6 month increases of 1-5% per period from 2013 until early this year. Moved Ranger to Erie (roughly the same price for similar coverage) but Marauder and Mustang's rates dropped like a rock when I moved them to Hagerty - same coverage as before, except I now have a 'guaranteed minimum value' agreed upon with the Hagerty agent, who also judges car shows, along with her husband. To my surprise, she valued my Mustang for way more than expected, even more than Marauder, which she described as a 'very nice #2 car'. Bikes and Home stayed with State Farm; currently only paying around $3,270 a year for everything. Do shop around.
