    Flex Plate

    Folks,

For y'all who are running Teksid blocks in your Marauder with forged 2003/2004 Cobra cranks, what flex plate are you using?

I am putting together a backup motor for my 2003 stock Marauder but want the backup to be able to handle whatever I may eventually throw at it. To that end, I have obtained a 1999 Teksid block, Probe dish pistons, forged H-beam rods and the fore mentioned 2003/2004 8 bolt forged crankshaft for the bottom end. Along with the block, I sourced a number of other items to include new FR500 cams, engine oil cooler, 24 lb injectors, alternator, timing gears, etc. a while back off Ebay.

As some of you may recall, I have been a Ford "puchrod" guys for most of my life. I have four Mustangs (1973 Mach 1 with a 545 {706HP/736TQ};1973 Grande {429SCJ bored .060 with 460 crank},1969 Mach 1 {modified 428SCJ}; and a stock 1989 5.0 LX), so I am not a real NOOB.

That having been said, my daily driver is my 2003 Marauder and quite frankly I am not "up to speed" on the mod motors as I am with the FE and Lima motors. Over the past five (5) months, I have been gathering as much information as I can on these motors. Unfortunately, there is a lot of conflicting information out there as it relates to interchangeability. It seems one has to check, double check and sometimes triple check sources.

Again, this motor is meant to be a backup for my daily driver with a bit more "grunt." I am over building the bottom end for future "growth."

Anyway, I am just about ready to send the short block parts to the machine shop and am trying to obtain the needed parts. This week, I am working the flex plate issue, so hence the question at the beginning of this thread. I would really appreciate any thoughtful responses.

    Thanks!

    ~BT

    I run a PRW flexplate.
    Bolts up, no drilling.

    Musclemerc,

I only see the 6-bolt flexplate in PRW list for Ford 4.6. It is showing part number 18281000; is that the one you are using?

You do allude to the problem though with the Vendor-offered 8-bolt flexplate. All the reviews speak to the 8 bolt offered flexplate having to have one or more holes modified in order to it fit the converter.

    Am I missing something?

I've got the correct 8 bolt flexplate for a 4R70W transmission.
I bought it for my 5.0 big bore build, but never used it.

$40 plus shipping if you are interested.

Also has the OEM Convertor nuts and an extra 2 Flexplate to crank bolts

Yes Musclemerc, it appears the one Joe has will work.

If it doesn't, I will try the one from PRW; I don't know how I missed it during my search.

Do you remember how long the SFI certification is on the one you have?

    Thanks!

Just to be clear, the flexplate that I have is not SFI rated.

No problem, Joe as I will take both yours and the one from PRW.

Musclemerc, I received the PRW flexplate today and it is a thing of beauty; I am totally impressed.

Btw, the SFI certification is good for three (3) years.
