...the first portable cell phone call was made by its inventor in NYC. The first call was reportedly to a 'wrong number'. Public sales of portable cell phones was still 10 years away.

The very first commercially available portable cellphone was the Motorola DynaTac 8000 at $3,995 (over $10,300 today). 30 minutes of 'talk time' and 10 hours to fully recharge the battery. The original prototype weighed 2.5 lbs while the first public release was trimmed down to half that weight.
